Family

As most all of you know, I have been blessed to have my family come along for this amazing journey. I would not have been able to miss my son at this special time in his life- his first steps, his first words and on and on.

My wife was a Rock Star through it all. It is no joke raising a little baby on the road, but she handle it with style and grace. In the end it was all worth it. We felt there was no substitution for being together. And Griffin loved every minute- from helping the caterers to idolizing the Jabbawockeez. What amazing memories we will have forever to look back on.

Family is the great chill pill on the road, the great equalizer, the humanizer. It was such a blessing to see the other guys with their kids. Danny’s girl were so sweet and would not let you walk by them without giving you a hug- even if they saw you, literally, 20 seconds earlier. Donnie’s son Elijah became a kind of life coach in our dressing room before the show- asking honest disarming questions with his dad’s charm.
After all he got Jon Knight to sing Step 5- the Holy Grail of pop music.

After Jon sang Step 5 one night on the summer tour, Elijah was ready to try it himself. A touching scene when Jon and Jordan and Elijah went over to the “warm up” keyboard just before show time to practice singing “Don’t you know the time has arrived!?” I caught it all out of the corner of my eye and could feel the easy love of the whole thing. Kids break you down to your purest simplest way. And we all naturally reached out to them when they were out on the road.

It is now common knowledge that Elijah nailed Step 5 and is now a seasoned pro with the mic. The apple sho nuf doesn’t fall far from the tree. Jordan said on the cruise that he would want his son to play him in a movie. Wise choice- Dante is as cool as his dad and a natural on the piano. (We got a little taste of his skills in the dressing room when we were in New England).

Through it all, we are a family. 5 brothers and a million sisters. We laugh, we cry, we play…I argue with everyone- USED TO argue with everyone…

It still isn’t time to write the history of this group. There’s too much love in the tank and we got places to go and people to meet. Where, how, and when, we will eventually know. Whatever it is, we will be held together by the fabric weaved together by our parents years and years ago. A quilt that grows and grows- so dazzling, so spectacular, the likes of which the world has never scene.

Let’s watch this!

You will never know how much my 5 brothers and million sisters helped me through this, the darkest year of my life. I feel surrounded by so much love and support. Even though I grew up an only child, I could never feel alone this year. I can’t thank you enough for coming back just at this time I needed you the most — and I won’t say goodbye yet. You all will forever hold a special place in my heart.

When this whole thing started I thought I had it all…not financially…but I had a strong marraige, a great family, and my health. A couple of those things are falling apart now…and I honestly don’t know what I would do if I hadn’t make so many more wonderful friends because you guys came back. My solo trips forced me to be more independent, I’ve found women I can relate to…almost like it was meant to prepare me for what is happening now. NKOTB 4EVER

    Joey -
You continue to astound us and we couldn’t be more grateful for the memories you have provided us over the past year.

Thanks so much for sharing your family with us! During my many shows, I got to witness the love that all of you guys have for your families. You are each great fathers and uncles to your children and each others kids. When you and Jordan talked about your kids on the cruise, we melted and seeing your love of them (live and on youtube) has made us respect you even more. We’ve seen Barrett too and she is an incredible mom and you & Griff are lucky to have her. Give her many footrubs during this pregnancy to thank her!

Like the sound of more to come … for this midwestern girl, it can’t come soon enough. Bring on More Block!

Thank you for sharing the your families with us through out this journey! It’s truly blessed to see your “mini me”s on stage. It was a magical moment to see EDub debut his singing talent! Hope one day we’d get to see NKOTB 2.0 on stage!! :D Have a great break the family!

  25. schoolmom Says:

I enjoyed watching all the kids on stage. It brought a huge smile to my face. I’m still a Facetime virgin so you can’t leave me yet! Joe, enjoy your family, they are precious and I am praying that Barrett’s pregnancy goes well. I’m sure you’ll take good care of her. I can’t wait to see what the future will hold for all of us. I will graduate Nursing school in May 2010 so no cruise for me since I will be walking the line at graduation, but hopefully that won’t be all in 2010, if so, I will wait for 2011. I think it would be awesome if all the kids got together and did a song with choreography! Griffin could come out and say, “Jabba, No, or Sure!!” That would be cute. Anyways, have a good rest of the year. We love you all!!!

    Dear Joey,

I’m sitting here, probably living the worst year of my life, with a lump in my throat and my heart swelling with pride to see the person you became, 22 years since I became a Blockhead. I’m so proud to be your fan. Yes, you are an “arguer”, grumpy sometimes, but NEVER with a lack of pure genius, the likes this decade was surely missing out on. THANK YOU for being you and even for giving me a lump in my throat, because that serves as my reminder that I’m still alive, in spite of everything, feeling, enjoying this ride as much as humanly and spiritually possible…and most importantly, that lump in my throat serves me as a vivid reminder of how much I still love you guys. YES, even you, the grumpy arguer!!! But you can be SO SWEET sometimes, that definitely, the good outweighs the rest in you…..AGAIN, THANK YOU!

  28. Patty Chou Says:

Joey, your words are so beautiful and true! I believe that the greatest achievement for any human being is to Love God, yourself and others and that is what family is all about.
I am one of your million sisters and will always be, I share with you the memories of the past present and future! We have come a long way together 5 brothers and a million sisters….
I am so happy for the joy that your son brings to you.. and so proud of the strong and honest woman you have as your wife. I will always be here for you and NKOTB, whenever you need us your million sisters just look up to the sky and you’ll see us, we are always with you.. shining down on you.
5 brothers & a million sisters = the moon surrounded by million stars!

I don’t know what you have in store but I want YOU to know that I’ve loved you my whole life and I’ll continue to love and support you. You mean so much to me and I want to thank you for allowing yourself to be so accessable to your supporters (as you like to call us)…because now it really does feel like we’re family. Never got to see Griffin personally, but that little guy of yours is beyond words! So smart & adorable. Got to see Danny’s girls here & there over the last few months. What sweethearts! They sat in the front of the bus & waved to us as we froze in Champaign!

I also believe that you’ve got some more history to make! Enjoy your time off & know we’ll all be here when you’re ready to come back to us! I’m so grateful to the 5 of you for helping me make new friendships that will last a lifetime! 5 Brothers & A Million Sisters–truer words have not been spoken!

  35. M3vigil Says:

Hey Joe, Thank you making the choice to share you life and family with us, your million sisters( & a few more brothers). This year has been an incredible journey. We planned family vacations around NKOTB concerts. In the Spring we planned a trip to the beach around the Hildago concert. In the Summer we planned a trip to the Grand Canyon and Petritied Forest around the Phoenix concert. If it weren’t for NKOTB we won’t have planned these trips and seen place we had never been before. Ya’ll have help create memories that my children have for a life time. Helping those less forunate, by participating in the Let’s Get This book drive,Donnie talking to my son about his Pokemon shirt at the M&G,my son getting to meet the man he was named after. That’s all he talked about since NKOTB announced their reunion- That he wanted to meet Jordan Knight. Whoa! When their teacher asks them to right about what they did this summer, they’ll have a lot to talk about. Oh, did I mention we went to the Houston concert. Whoa what a concert- the heartfelt feelings were unmistakeable. Enjoy your time with the family. See ya in May. I’ll Be Loving You Forever - Robin

    Joe,

THANK YOU for coming back, Thank you BARRETT for understanding and for bringing up Griffin on the road I hope you have enjoyed it as much as we all have. Congratulations on Baby No.2 BTW!

This year has been Sooo much fun has allowed sooo many of us to make some wonderful new friends has provided so many of us a release, an escape somewhere to go have fun when life got too hard.

I really do hope like all of my block sisters that this is not the end and it simply is TBC! Hope you will enjoy your break and come back and keep us (and yourselves of course) all young and happy before we really are too old to do this.

    Thank you

  37. aprildenay Says:

That was beautifully written Joe. I have loved every second of this past year and few months. I rekindled a long lost friendship, i found my inner voice, and i rejoiced in my love for you fabulous 5 guys. Thank you for coming back to us. Only we can truly understand and appreciate the true beauty of it all. We get this! WE GOT THIS!!! Until we meet again….. muah. All my love

  38. jmacgirl1992 Says:

Ok. So I tweeted you a response but there’s not enough room there. This whole time I have not been able to put into words what this reunion has meant to me. I still do not have the words…except thank you. This blog brought me to tears because you have such a way of expressing yourself. I am so happy that NKOTB has gotten the opportunity to write your own ending (I know you said this is not the end) but you are getting to do it on your terms…not on anyone else’s. You are so right in that family is everything and your wife is a rock star for putting up with not only the travelling and raising a baby on the road, but also all us crazy fans…you are all so special to us. As you said we are all one big happy family…5 brothers and a million sisters and all of ya’ll’s kids. Edub did an awesome job on Step 5, I was blessed to see him do it twice…and as you said he definitely is his father’s son!!! So is yours… so just to sum it up… this last year has been such a blessing. If you guys hadn’t have done this reunion, I would have been happy this past year and not thought I was missing out on anything. But since you did do this reunion, it has given me an even better year. I have new friends who are now part of my million sisters!! I hate to quote that song over and over but it really sums up everything “Didn’t know how much I missed you”..is so true. Thank you for the old memories from back in the day and these new memories and new friends. So as my heart swoons as Please Don’t Go Girl comes on my mp3 player, I will close with thank you for the memories and I look forward to the next chapter in this story!!

    Joe

Just when I think I have cried all my tears something comes up and opens the floodgates again. These are sad tears though They are tears of joy & remembrance. I remember the first time I saw Griffin. It was in Detroit & he was wrapped up in his little winter jacket. Barrett was ever so lovingly placing him in his stroller. Next up was Niagara Falls and Griffin was just so fascinated with saying dada dada. It was quiet the conversation so an awesome opportunity to chat with your lovely wife

Next was Saskatoon and without getting into detail cause I am sure you remember I will always remember the sly little smile on his face and the prettiest blue eyes staring back at me (which were then followed by yours…the look in your eyes and you sayingthe most sincere thank you I have ever heard - in that moment you were not Joe the New Kid you were Joe the dad)

The summer tour had me seeing Griffin every blue moon enjoying the Jabbas with Barrett in the crowd. No longer the little baby I had seen month earlier but a little man in his own right

As with the rest of the NK kids, we too have been blessed to watch them grow over these pass 10 months and we thank each one of them for giving their dads to all of us.

This story is not over and we cant wait to see where it takes us all next.

    Let’s Continue This!!!!!

I am thankful for the family that we as fans have become. And I am thankful that you guys made me feel a part of your family. That may sound a little crazy, but you have been so wonderful to us fans that this reunion/tour has felt like we are one big family!

    So grateful!

    Joe…

I have learned that I can always count on you to bring home the emotion of the moment with your blogs. You do it with such an ease and eloquence…

From that first glimpse of life on the road… do you remember it? — sitting in Section one twenty something at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on the eve of the launch of the tour blogging from the heart…. Letting us in… putting us in the moment with you… making us a part of the journey in the most intimate of ways… You have been the emotional, from the heart, spoken in truth JoeMac that has brought it all home for us. “And We Thank You….” ♥

Barrett is an amazing lady. You have an adorable little man in Griffin. Blessings to the three of you as you await the newest member of the McIntyre clan’s arrival! You are such an inspiration - they way you love and support each other is a beautiful thing. Cherish and nurture it always, it will always see you through life’s more ‘interesting’ moments and challenges.

Looking forward to whatever lies ahead with not only NKOTB - but with your solo projects as well!

    Take care, stay in touch…

    Aww Joey Joe!
I love to read your blogs. They always touch me. You are truly amazing!
Now the tour is over, I hope you get to make the most of your down time and spend it with your lovely family. I hope you get to see Griffin do a lot of new things. You are such a wonderful Dad. You just amazed me when you brought your son to the shows. I hope to see the lil McIntyre follow in your footsteps on day. I hope your wife has a easy pregnancy and you both have a new healthy baby.
I wanted to take this time to say “THANK YOU” for all that you give. For giving us the chance to do something special with you. LGT was a Huge Success. I wish I could of been chosen to help in Dallas, but since I wasn’t, I chose to take on my own task. As you probably already know from the other Mac Jeans girls, I was the one who designed the Thank You from Texas towels. With the help of some friends from Houston, we took donations for the towels. We ended up collecting $530, which has already been given to the LGT foundation. It felt great knowing I was helping you out. When you came to the Waffle House after the Dallas show, I was so happy and excited to see you there. This was my first time to do the Waffle House thing, so it was even better for me since I am a Joey Girl. (shhh….don’t tell the other guys!)I was sitting at a table pretty close to you and when you were about to leave someone asked how we were doing on the books. You replied with “I don’t think we are going to reach our goal of 25,000 books.” I then replied back to you, “Yes, we will. Houston is going to make it happen. We have been working so hard.” Goes to show you how committed and strong we are. We wanted Houston to go out with a bang. That we did! That was the BEST SHOW I’ve ever been too. It even topped the cruise. You guys were amazing, and so was the crowd. It was nothing but love in the house that night in Houston. I will always remember that show. It will stay forever in my heart. Sadly, we lost a BH sister that night, but we gained an angel in heaven. Jackie will be looking down on us always. She will be missed. And with that said, I will end this before I write a book here. I just want you to know that I love you and the guys so much. I’ve been blessed with so many wonderful friends because of you guys. Thank You for that, and Thank You for the Great Music, Good Times, and a Lifetime of Memories! I hope to get to go on the cruise again next year. Just remember to bring your Speedo! lol
    Love Always,

Joe~so this morning I check my email, and the email on top of the list says from ‘Joe McIntyre’ with attachment “5 Brothers and a Million Sisters”. It was early Monday morning and I was awake and very happy! I had finally gotten my download of my new favorite song. I put it on my MP3 player and listened to it immediately, catching myself rocking back and forth to the lyrics and music. The song got to me as the words hit home. NKOTB brought 5 sisters (me and my 4 sisters)and a million other fans together during this journey as we were able to come together and enjoy your shows. This could’ve have been a more perfect time for all of you to re-enter our lives. It’s now been a year since losing my job as a family counselor and even though it’s been difficult, you guys made it just a little bit better, probably more than you’ll ever know. Even though I’ve never met you, I want you to all know…you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. It was a great ride and I hope to see you and all your families back someday in the future.
    Much Love, Jaime from Wisconsin

Big thanks to all of you, and especially to your families, for allowing you to share this with all of us. It’s truly amazing seeing all of you guys and the fans all grown up with families, etc it really feels like yesterday that we were ALL just kids! But amazing, thoughtful, good kids turn into amazing thoughtful good adults (as all of your children will as well) and it is truly beautiful to see the wonderful men and parents you guys have grown to be. We’ve ALL come a long way from the 80’s and you guys have given us the perfect opportunity to reflect on that.

Barrett absolutely IS a saint and is always gracious, even though this cannot always be an easy thing for her. We LOVE her! Raising a baby on the road cannot have been easy at all but it has been inspiring to parents of little ones, because if you guys can survive living out of a bus with a baby/toddler, the rest of us can survive ANYTHING with our little ones! LOL So, thank you tremendously to Barrett for supporting you in this and supporting the fans, who I know at times can make both of your lives challenging.

Thank you for embracing us all back into your lives with open arms and you know, in turn, we will always do the same for you. Also, thank you for helping the fans find and reunite with each other, we’ve formed some wonderful friendships out of this.

Much love to you and your family,

I suppose that perhaps the biggest thank you must go out to YOUR families for sharing you for all this time with us. It isnt always easy I am sure for them to share you with your million sisters, so thank them for us all we appreciate it. Wow, you floor me with your ability to write such heartfelt blogs. I can’t thank you and the other guys enough for coming back into my life. Without you guys coming back together, I would not have met such an incredible group of girls. I’m in contact with most of them on a daily basis and will continue to be for years to come! Some of these girls are ones in my own town who would have just remained faces in the crowd. Thank you for bringing these dynamite divas into my life!

I want to thank you for always being such a sweetheart at the five 5* that I attended and making me feel like you remembered me, f**k s**t pin anyone (even though I know that’s not possible). I wanted to tell you this at 5* in Houston but there were too many emotions to make that many coherent words :). I must say you won this Jordan Knight girl over and now I am a diehard MAC girl, sorry JK! I even help run a Joe site! Yep you heard right!

I want to wish you luck with baby #2. Enjoy this time with your beautiful wife and son. You’re a lucky man and I’m so glad you choose to share just a part of your life with us! I look forward to what the future has to offer! I hope to see you on the cruise in 2010!

He was also a little flirt… there was a young girl aged about 6 with her Mum and Griffin was most taken with her, really cute !

  84. luvindankotb4eva Says:

    Mr. McIntyre,
Oh where to begin?! I’m not really sure, so I will wing it! Lol. So excuse it if it is random! Lol.
First & foremost, I haveta say thanks for bringin’ back “Popsicle”! Totally my fave from the past, that I have carried with me all of these years! When I met Jordan when he was travelin’ solo, I had requested it, and when I got to meet him after that particular show, I asked him why he didn’t play my request! He, my sister & I all were laughing at it. When he did the contest this year for the trip to the show in May, I had put that in my email as what I would like tho hear at the concert, and had mentioned the story I just typed to you. I’m not sure if that’s “Why” you guys brought it back (if it is, THANK-YOU Jordan!!! ;) I owe ya 1! Lol.), but I sincerely thank-you for doing so! =)
I want all 5 of you to know that I have never gone dormant as a fan to you guys, and I never will! You guys have always held a special place in my heart. Your music has always gotten me through tough spots in my life, and made me smile when there was not much else that could. I sincerely thank-you all from the bottom of my heart! With the release of “the Block” last fall, I was able to find something else (aside form my children) to smile at & be happy about, and I am greatful for that. As a single mother of 4 small peeps (8, 7, 4, & 3… who all, by the way, are “Blockheads”!), I feel ancient on most days. You guys coming out of hibernation has helped revive me to feel my age, which is no where near ancient! It has also helped me show peeps my continued devotion to all of you was not in vain… Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!
I hope you guys aren’t gone again for so long! I also hope you all have fun raising your families & watching them all continue to grow & flourish! Family is truly a wonderful thing, and you guys have always enforced the value of that to all of us (It’s the “New England” blood in ya!)! I thank all 5 of you for sacraficing your time with your families, your privacy, your sanity (I’m sure!!! LOL), your sleep, and everything else that you guys give up so that you can give to us! It means so much to know that you guys cherish & love us fans, as much as we cherish & love you guys!
I’ve enjoyed the ride this time, just had I had 2 decades ago, and will continue to come along for it in the future! Thank-you again for everything! You guys are the best!
    I love you guys!!!!

Thank your family for me for giving you up again for our enjoyment and love. Give Barrett a HUGE hug - she’s as big a star as you! :)
I really hope this ride continues because you - the 5 of you - have brought so much joy and happiness to the lives of your fans and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you, the rest of the 5 guys, and your families did for us the last year +. We love you guys so much and think of you as family - lots of love and luck Joe to you and yours…see you soon (I hope) for some more Block memories and good times! :) I had the opportunity to chat with your dad on the cruise and on the flight home to Boston - he’s a peach and I love him so much! He was honestly the 6th New Kid on the cruise and was fondly called “the Mac Daddy” or “the Big Mac” - he’s an amazing person and I could see where you get your spunk from! :)

  99. Lindsay77 Says:

    Dearest Joe,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this past journey with us! This particularly reflective blog about family, which provided a glimpse into some of the events that we were not privy to witness over the course of the reunion tour, had quite an emotional impact on me. Twenty years ago when I was a young teenager, my mother (who passed away in the mid-1990’s) took me to meet all five of you in Detroit, MI and twenty years later, I took a photograph of her when I travelled to N.Y.C. to witness you guys perform for the first time in fifteen years. You are undoubtedly correct when you state that we are all held together by what was weaved by our parents many years ago. Is this why you included several references to family in your song “Five Brothers and A Million Sisters”? Are you acknowledging the contributions your fans’ parents imparted to the group’s success? I’d be willing to bet that it is….. ;-)

Last year, I had the opportunity to meet your wonderful family during the commencement of the reunion tour in Toronto, ON, Canada. On the night of your guys’ first concert, I had an extremely positive interaction with Barrett that I will never forget. She absolutely won me over that night. She is a sweetheart and I think we all immensely appreciate the sacrifices she made this past year in order to share you with us “Joe girls”! She is an amazingly classy person. You did well there, Mr. Mac! ;-)

Furthermore, I had the chance to meet Griffin in Canada last year as well. I was completely taken aback by how strikingly gorgeous he was. You were standing in front of me holding him and he was almost stealing the spotlight away from you!! I didn’t think that would ever be possible! ;-) He was ten months old and teething when I met him and by the time I saw him again near the end of the Full Service Tour, he was standing and bouncing away to the music of the “Jabbas!” at the “show!”. He is absolutely beautiful, Joe. Perhaps this is why I could not resist bringing him “Mickey ears” to the Orlando, FL concert this past Spring! LOL…..

I’m glad that you think that there is “too much love in the tank” to end this journey now because as you can see by the responses to this blog, that love is undeniably reciprocated! This tour has also given many of us new friends who have become much like family and with which we have created unforgettable, cherished memories. As Donnie said at the last concert of the tour, I believe that this past year was an opportunity to solidify our bond and build momentum for the next phase of this awesome journey!! So, Joe, let us reflect on the blessings of this past journey (as you did in this blog) and then LET’S CONTINUE TO GET THIS!!!!! Love ya, Joe!! ~

Thank you Joe for the beautiful sentiment. The NKOTB family and all of the events in the last year have made it the happiest time of my life. This reunion has been a gift to me. When I heard NKOTB for the first time on the radio in Guatemala in the late 80s I never imagined that a day would come when I would meet you all in person, in Memphis, TN of all places. Thank you for the amazing and beautiful ride you have taken me on, and I look forward to more adventures! See you on the cruise!

As if the ending of this tour hasn’t brought me enough tears, this blog certainly made me shed more. I find it completely heart warming for you to share the family tour perspective. You sharing these backstage moments is another certification that it is 5 brothers and a million sisters. The subject of family has always been hands off (and it still is that way) but I thank you for sharing those moments, for trusting us enough to share in what you all experienced. And may I just say your wife deserves a big standing ovation round of applause for putting up with everything and doing it with such class, Ive never met her but Ive heard what a wonderful person she was during this time. It takes a true woman to be able to deal with the crazy lifestyle the tour brought forth. We don’t know what lies ahead for the group and for us fans, I truly hope that this wonderful journey continues in some shape or another. I was around the first time but because I was at a young age at the time I feel I was left shafted and missed out on the whole scene. Growing up and thinking about NKOTB I never imagined this ride would once again re-open and we would all be allowed to take part. I feel privileged to be around for this next chapter. The group has brought me so much joy that I never thought imaginable. But even more I share your sentiment of family. Now with twitter & the community there is a connection we all share, an easier way for us fans to share in everything. Even if we’ve never met there is a family there that I know I can cry, laugh, dance, sing with and enjoy every moment of this amazing journey. Words can not express how much you and the guys and the whole .com family mean to me. I look forward to whats next and look forward to one day hopefully being able to once again say hello to someone I now feel is a close friend.

    Thank You!
    Nancy

I just wanted to thank you for helping make this the best year of my life. Through NKOTB I was able to meet such amazing people that I feel are my family now, just as you feel everyone that toured with you are your family. Having that family that understands and is non-judgmental made me realize a lot of things about myself, and for that I will forever be grateful. And none of this would have happened (or would have taken A LONG time to happen) had NKOTB not reunited and taken us on this amazing journey! So, for all that and more Thank You!! Congratulations on your growing family!

Actually, you might not KNOW it, but I am convinced you FEEL it.

After all, you wrote 5 brothers and a million sisters.

What we (NKOTB and the Blockheads) have is one of a kind, never happened before, never will with another group.

You do not know how much this reunion has meant to me. It has revitalized my soul. We all have problems of our own but it what you make of them, that make the difference! I have been trying to do things for myself as my own children are getting older. I agree that our kids really do put a smile in our hearts and make living have so much more meaning!!! I work as an Early Childhood Teacher and no matter how my life is at home helping the children and families in my job gives me a little peace of happiness and lets face it, a room with 8, 11 mo. to 1 1/2 yr olds can absolutely be fun! I love going to work and being a kid again. Hey- need a book drive here to help our reservation, we are promoting literacy this summer. READING is everything :) I love that you are doing that reading drive. What a great dad you must be! Have a great break with your family….

    Joe,

First off, let me say that this has been more than an amazing ride! Years ago, when I was a little girl at age 6, I idolized you guys from a far, knowing that I could never go to any of your shows because my parents would never spend the money to take me. I could never have thought in my wildest dreams that you guys would be back years later. I am so grateful to all of you that I was able to see these shows. You don’t know how much you have meant to me.

You guys have been such an inspiration to me. I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth and almost died. I looked to you because you were my first role models. I sure picked good ones. You helped me understand that doing drugs was wrong, etc. You and I (and the rest of us) have a huge bond that no one can take away from us! NO ONE! I am EXTRMELY grateful that God sent you guys into my life. I wouldn’t have made it through life without you. You guys ARE my guardian angels. I couldn’t say it any other way. You have helped me through EVERYTHING (torment, suicide, EVERYTHING). I could not thank you ENOUGH! WE ARE ALL brothers and sisters through this journey. I look to you guys as the big brothers I NEVER had! Even though you don’t know me from a hole in the wall, I feel so connected to you and I have from such a young age. I will ALWAYS and FOREVER be a BLOCKHEAD because this is a bond that NO ONE can break!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS A LOT!!!!

    Love Always,

    Joe,

What a beautiful way to sum up what sounds like an amazing time in your life. Unfortunately for your fans in Australia, we were unable to experience the joy of your tour this time around but here is hoping that you will get down here to visit and perform for your Aussie fans. You were right when you said there is nothing like family. Unfortunately with my first child I decided to go back to work so I miss most of his first. I didn’t make that mistake with my second son and I will treasure that time forever because of what I missed with my first son. Family is what makes us who we are. Our children are our lives. Congratulations on the up coming birth of your second son. As a mother of two boys I know and understand the joy of sons.

This blog has meant more to me than any you have written. We as your fans are truely blessed to have you in our lives. Enjoy your time off. Enjoy your family and never stop being the best NKOTB member there is.

Hope to hear from you and see you soon.

Thanks to all of the guys for coming back to us after “20 long years”…I truly missed you. You sparked a renewed energy in me that has been gone for several years and added excitement to my life. And its so touching to hear our kids sing every word to Please Don’t Go Girl….. or Step 5 haha! to think they weren’t even born!! That still amazes me. Everyone is telling there stories,so I feel it okay to tell mine.In 1988 my mother passed and I watched and listened to everything NKOTB to take me away from my world. Then in 2007 my health began to suffer.I have had for many yrs a stomach disorder to lay on top of this a had a dislocated hip that a doctor was treating as depression(never took a single x-ray)then to top it off I got chicken pocks (35yrs old and never knew I didn’t have this childhood disease)that turned in to shingles. In the middle of all of this my home burned to the ground. So I am sitting here with a new case of shingles and swollen lymph nodes and sad I have to find something else to track to keep my mind happy. All threw my sorrows once again NKOTB took me away from my pains. You guys don’t know what you mean to me.I love each and everyone of you.Was over joyed to hear Joey is gonna be a dad again.I have prayed Donnie find love again.Danny’s mom passing really got me.I wasn’t able to see a concert this time around. So take some time off,get some rest, reconnect with family, and then PLEASE have anothe tour.God has kept me afloat for 2yrs now and I will keep going, and I will in my life meet the men of NKOTB.God Bless you men.By the way NKOTB are the only thing me and my daughter agree on,she watched summertime with me,the first time she said its just a bunch of old men.She finally was like mom donnie is sexy.I had to tell her back off thier all mine.Oh I think Jared is a sweetie.Take Care and God Bless you all.

  154. seraphically Says:

First off, thanks for the blog Joe! It’s nice to see a long coherent good English blog rather than some shortened 140 characters tweet. Don’t get me wrong though, I love you and all the guys’ tweets, but letters and blogs are always appreciated! :)

Thank you for giving me such a crazy year. You guys haven’t technically done much (and I don’t mean it in a negative way), but I just felt there were so much things that I have done this past year because of you guys, that I wouldn’t have done ever. And because of you guys, I also met people I don’t think I would’ve met otherwise.

I love your song 5B&MS. I know it may sound cheesy and all, but that’s how it is. We’re like family. At every concert, I feel like it’s another family gathering. Friends and family often ask me how many concerts I’ve been to and how many do I actually need, isn’t it all the same? Yeah, the clothes and the song selection is pretty much the same, but you guys always bring something to each venue that I’ve been to that makes it unique — makes it special for the fans there. And that’s what I enjoy!

So thank you so much for this past year. Thank you for starting the book drive. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this crazy ride!

  156. Jenik Says:

    Joey,
Wow first off looks like I came a little late to this party. First, I wanted to thank all of you with every part of my being for releasing the Greatest Hits as well as the Block. As well as the tour that you did. This last year has been one of the worst in my life, but you guys made it so much better. I am not sure what I enjoyed more, Donnie giving the lip reading lesson in Auburn or EDUB singing STEP 5 on the Pay Per View. I loved the fact that you all came out into the audience, love all the new music but still love all the old.
I am so happy for you, Barrett, and Griffen on the new baby.
In my opinon you seem to have changed so much, I don’t remember you talking as much as you did, but it is so nice to “hear” your thoughts, they are so meaningful and touch so many different people in such many many ways.
Thanks again from one of your million sisters
    Jeni

  157. NeeceeLuvsNKOTB Says:

Joe this year has been so great for me. You 5 brothers along with a million sisters helped me learn how to live again. I have loved you guys for 20 years and you back together breathed new life into me. Next year is going to be just as wonderful because I will be on the NKOTB cruise. I’m excited and I can not wait. I was only able to make 2 concerts this year but I hope you know that as a fan I do appreciate EVERYTHING you guys had to sacrafice for us on this tour. I hope your enjoying your time with your family at home and getting the down time you deserve. Congradulations on the NEW addition to your family as well. I met Barrett and Griffen in Greenville SC in March and she is a wonderful woman and Griffen is awesome.

As a fan I just ask that you 5 bothers Please don’t leave us again. You are far too important in our lives to loose you again. Lets Keep Getting This.

    Joe,

I have forever been your fan and the fan of the group. I generally cry when i hear you sing. Your voice has always moved me. Last year when the official announcement came, I was bewilder to know that I would get a chance at reliving my youth. My fav group back together, my high school sweetheart moved here. It was as if the world finally turned right. But then I missed the tour last year. I barely made it this year, but still missed that desired facetime. I have waited 20 years to see you in concert. I am hoping that I won’t have to wait that long to meet you in person. You have been a wonderful inspiration to my life. I am thankful that you finally found someone to spend your life with. In my humble opinion, Barrett is very lucky, and so are you.

Thank you for making the choices that put you in my life. Give my love to Griffin and Barrett and may you truly be blessed.

You will never know what this last year has meant to me. No one really understands the love I have for you all. They don’t understand why I got so emotional at different times throughout this last year. 5 brothers and a million sisters has brought me to tears, it’s a beautiful song that I know came straight from your heart. You are more then just a group of 5 guys singing and dancing on stage. You have brought my daughter and I closer, given us something to do together. It has been an amazing journey and I can not wait to see what this next year brings. Whether it be individually or as a group, myself and my duaghter will be there to support each of you!

    Much love and respect,

  164. Meow Says:

Joe, thanks a million to you and your little fam for coming out on the road. The Mrs. seems to have been a good sport about it all which is much appreciated by the fans. The reunion could never have happened without you and you couldn’t have left your baby home for a year so thanks to everyone who made taking Griffin on the road work. He was just a teensy little thing when ya’ll were packing up his things to hit the road and by Memphis, he was waving to the girlies from the golf cart on his way from the buses to the stage. God bless his big blue eyes and his big ol’ forehead! We always suspected that you were a well raised lad but your commitment to your family while doing a a whole big show biz rock star thing speaks volumes. The original Mr and Mrs Mac did a good with you! Sidebar: your dad tapped me on the shoulder riding into the garden in Boston last September and asked if I was ready and being a blockhead since way back in the day, of course I recognized him and lucky for everyone I did not actually knock him down the escalator when when I threw myself at him for big fatherly hug. My dad is gone now and since we kind of feel like we grew up with you, bumping into your dad that night felt like seeing the father of an old friend which always makes me smile. I took it as a cosmic wink from my dad. Seriously, though, not in a creepy emotionally unstable way! My mom went with me to Boston for that show and it was the first time since my dad died that I felt pure, unadulterated JOY. Walking back to the hotel I kept saying “Best. Day. EVER!” and my mom said “How often do you get to be with your grown child for one of the best days of her life??” So that’s part of my little end of tour story. It doesn’t cover it all and it’s probably more than anyone will find interesting, but I just want to take a stab (again: figure of speech. Totally not a stabby stalker!) at telling you thank you for bringing your family out on the road to make it possible for so many of us to keep a promise we made to ourselves as teenagers: someday, I will meet New Kids on the Block!!! This is gonna look long and unabomber-ish, isn’t it?

Let it be recognized that you have seriously developed your chops! You are a really dynamic performer. I mean, the electricity of the band is SO FUN. But also - YOU - you are very talented in putting on a show and showing personality and song/dance. I really enjoyed watching you.

Of course, I sobbed watching the last show on Youtube and the webcast - after seeing you guys 5 times in concert plus the TODAY show and Webcast, I have to say I TRULY enjoyed the party. I’ve told everyone loud and proud - you guys are better than you’ve ever been and I’m proud of you!!

I feel like I’ve been on tour WITH you to some extent…catching glimpses here and there behind the scenes with video logs and youtube stuff and I will miss it. Just can’t explain how fun it has been.

Best of luck and good wishes to you and your wife and the little guy (who shares my birthday - and that’s the only reason I remember his birthday). I hope to see you on broadway (now that I live in NYC).

You’ve been good to the fans :)

    Joe,

It is so good to hear you talk about your family. I pray for you guys often and I always pray that while we are enjoying the reunion that your families would not be sacrificed because of it. I am very much a family person and have enjoyed nothing more than sharing what was a huge part of my teen years with my 2 little girls. My 8 year old has been to 2 shows with me now and knows the words to THE BLOCK songs even better than I do. This is something that My mom and I did together the first go round and now the 3 of us are sharing it together. We were at the Dallas show a couple of weeks ago and my beautiful little girl got us moved to the very front row. I tease her telling her that her cute looks finally paid off for me. She says, “mama, it took you 20 years to see them from the front row and took me only 2 concerts.” She is right. My 20 year dream finally came true seeing you guys so close up. Now I just need to meat you guys and that would complete it:) It’s like I have 5 BFF’s that I have never met. Maybe someday. Seeing Donnie and Danny’s kids was one of the hilights of the night for me. It is so cool that we all share that common bond now. Thank you guys soooo much for sharing your lives with us again. Hug your wife and little man for me and tell them that we thank them too. And just a side note, my husband plays a mean sax if you guys ever want to add one. I will rent him out for a good price:) love you guys.

And one final thanks - thank you so much for 5 brothers & a million sisters, my new fav Block song. The first time I listened I thought, wow, they really DO like us! Lol :)

Thanks for the wonderful journey! I’m glad you were able to have your family with you. Family is everything and without them, there would be no you. I could just see it now…the next NKOTB band will be all of your kids…yours, Donnie’s, Jordan’s, Danny’s…and who knows…Jon may just join the crew with rugrats of his own. I look forward to the next journey. Thanks for coming back into our lives. I love you!

    Joe Mac,
Such a sweet blog- loved it!. Thank you so much for such an incredible year. This reunion exceeded my highest expectations. So glad to hear that you seemed to have as much fun as we did. Please tell Barrett and Griffin that we appreciate them so much for sharing you with us. She is such a trooper. Make sure to pamper her even more during her pregnancy- after this past year she deserves it! Congrats on Baby Mac # 2 on the way and I look forward to hearing your solo album- I cannot tell you how excited I am!
Looking forward to continuing this journey. We will never stop loving you so please don’t ever go away..
