DW ON MICHAEL JACKSON

Michael Jackson was, without a doubt, the single most amazing performer that I’ve ever seen. As a young teenage boy with a dream- he was beyond inspirational. The fact that his public/private life became a soap opera and a sideshow is more of a reflection of our societies misplaced priorities than it is a reflection of the type of person that he may have been. Yet despite all of that- the fact that his performances, even of even 25 years ago, still resonate today….. THAT is a true testament to his greatness.

DW I agree with your statement. It is true that our society pushes for the “soap opera” effect and that is a disgrace! His talents, gifts and love will live on forever! Those he touched will remember and keep him alive in the proper manner!

All our love to Michael and his whole family!

    Love ALways

    Donnie,
I don’t believe truer words have been spoken…Just as everyone else is, I am keeping his family, friends and fans in my prayers…Such a sudden and shocking loss…I only hope and pray that the media will continue to respect the privacy and anonymity of his children which Michael had fought so hard to obtain for them!

His legacy will continue to live on…

    Much love,

    Thoughtfull words Ddub!
I’m going to keep his greatness alive for the little girl that is growing inside of me. Yes, she will know who MJ was, even if she never saw him alive.

    DW-

MJ was and will always be, a true inspiration to the acts that followed. From the things he endured as a child, the early fame, the constant scrutinizing of his life, he could have been a victim of many other bad things much earlier on. I will miss his unending emotion and vibrancy he brought to his music and performances. The NKOTB do a marvelous job with emulating his stage presence, though it can never be duplicated. Thank you for your amazing tribute last night, i wish i could have been there.

    Take Care,
    and God Bless.

  15. wizbiff Says:

I heard so many great things from the show last night. Thanks for working FAST to pull together a few things to honor his legacy.

  16. lauraebethel Says:

Despite everything when I think of being a kid and watching MTV on Saturday morning with my brother and sister I think of the Beat it video, the Thriller video, his red leather jacket, and my MJ doll with its sparkely glove…

He’s been a part of our lives in some way for a long long time and he’ll leave a small hole in our hearts forever.

  17. kimberann Says:

I 100% agree. He was an amazing talent: singer, song-writer, performer, artist, dancer, actor…a jack of all trades. I’m still in shock that this has even happened. You guys were yards apart just a couple months ago! Your tribute last night in Detroit was so touching and I’m proud to call myself a NKOTB fan.
Stay strong, guys, and keep your heads up. And give Jonathan a big hug from me and the rest of the Sixters!!

To spite the “soap opera/side show” that you mentioned, he was a phenomenal performer and musician! I remember fighting with my sister over who was going to listen to the “Thriller” album and when!! I have faith that his musical legacy will live on in the hearts of millions for generations to come!

Thanks also for the tribute at your concert! It was touching that you all worked so quickly to pull something together! (a tribute to NKOTB and their character!!)

  23. MartinaR2100 Says:

Very true. No matter what was going on in MJs personal life (& whether we agreed or didnt agree) there is not disagreing about how talented he was. The world has lost one of its creative genises & for that we are all truly sad. But with that being said, it makes me even more greatful for your reunion. Not only has it proven how connected we fans are to you guys but it has brought new friends into our lives…we will cherish this forever!

    XOXOXO

RIP MJ you and your family are in my prayers.

  27. miss_ava Says:

I hope the tribute will be included in the rest of the tour. I’d love to see it in person. His death made me hold onto you guys even tighter. As he was a part of my childhood, so were you. I kept tweeting you guys yesterday as I started to think about his death because I was afraid you would never know how you affected me.

I just want you to know I grew up right because you cared enough to guide me. I want you to remember your fans and believe in this special relationship you had with us. It was surreal and you made it real. I don’t know how to let you go. Somehow, you made me believe you would stay forever. I just can’t let you go without having said this somewhere. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have all the loving friends that I have today. This love exists in no other world but an NKOTB world. I hope whenever the last tour is, your fans will stop hating, fighting, complaining, arguing, blaming & hurting.

Thank you for allowing me to remember you, to remember me. I will always love you. :’o\

  28. JamminJeanette Says:

Most musicians are with drama.. such is life for the creative. However, his impact on music will never go away and that will be a staple for him for the rest of his life, controversy aside.

I, as a fellow musician and singer, apreciate his contributions to music and loved early MJ as a child.

Same as I appreciate the contributions of many singers and the crap they deal with just to be able to perform. I think that, in some aspect, is why I never tried to persue a professional singing career myself. I sing/play locally for the love of music and to be able to do what I want WHERE I want and how I want.

Anyhow, to try to stay on subject(because I meander), I hope MJ is known for his contribution rather than his faults, which we all have a grapple with… none of us is completely innocent and those without issues throw the first rock. I know as niave as I am I’m not throwing anything.

Thank you Donnie for your kind words. We appreciate them.

Donnie I so agree with your statment. It hurts me to know that people actually believe these tabloids and judge people off of them. They don’t know what the truth is only he does. He is one of Gods angels now and is looking down upon us. I love you Donnie! You are an amazing man! Take care and I’ll see you in Irvine!

    XOXO

    RIP Michael Jackson!

  30. missflipflop Says:

I completely agree with you, Donnie. Michael Jackson will always have a special plae in my heart just as you all do. I grew up listening to his music and going to the skating rink and being excited when “Thriller”,”Beat It” and “Billie Jean” would come on! :) I have nothing but fond beautiful memories when it comes to him. It is sad that those made such a mockery of his bad decisions are also the same ones who rock out to his music. He is first and foremost respected by me for being a person, secondly as an amazing talent that the world will never know again. We are all blessed to have been able to have him and his music as a part of our lives soundtracks. May he rest in peace and entertain those above with his moonwalking and “e-hees” :)

  35. ritasummerstar Says:

Agreed. I just wish Farrah Fawcett would get the same respect MJ is getting. She spent her last years suffering and battling a disease that eventually took her life, she inspired so people who are battling cancer, to fight & remain hopeful. Its just sad that shes taking a backseat to this, she deserves the same respect. RIP both of them.

  36. marly7 Says:

I feel like I’ve lost a friend. When we the fans follow such talent and get to to things about them it draws us closer. I was so looking forward to his comeback. His music was there for me when I needed it the most. It’s like the end of my generation. His kids will hurt the most, my heart aches for their loss.

  37. velvetfairy Says:

I agree whole heartedly with everything you’ve said. It saddens me beyond belief that people are going to think less of him because of allegations and things about his personal life. He was an amazing artist, he was an amazing human being. I think what saddens me most about that this is that in times like this people don’t understand that “celebrities” are just that, they’re people too. When hateful things are said about your family you attack, its normal. Like people really need to lay off and respect and remember a man who brought music to many generations. He’s going to be a man who will continue to bring music to many generations in the future because lord knows if I can introduce my Godson to Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor I ain’t about to not introduce him to some Michael Jackson!

I remember the first CD in our household being Thriller. I remember besides country music that Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Madonna were the only three musicians my dad really introduced me to. He wanted to make sure if nothing else I knew them. That has always made me feel that they are beyond important for everyone to know about. I remember the first time I ever listened to Thriller, I remember finally getting to see this video I heard so much about and thinking to myself NOW THAT’S A VIDEO! I remember him performing Black or White and it has been one of my top ten favorite songs since.

So I personally thank you for this. I also hope that people will realize that he was a human being and should be treated as such today. Yes, he was iconic and no one will ever be able to take that away from him, but at the end of the day I think people need to really recognize that he has a family. People need to realize that harsh words should be shared among others, he should not be judged because only one man can do that but that praise and your favorite moments that you can remember, no matter how old you are should be shared in the next couple of days.

    MUCH love,
    Michelle Patterson

    Donnie
I cried for a man I never met but who has been such an influence and a piece of fabric in my life last night. I am still numb. No matter what happened in MJ’s personal life no one can deny the influence Michael Jackson had on our generation. Every artist I know and love is influence by MJ I found myself calling both my parents and recalling memories that revolved around listening to Thriller in our home.
Michael Jackson & NKOTB have always been a part of my life. I do not know a time where you all have not been and the loss of Michael is just a jolt to realize life is fragile & random so we must live it to the fullest.
A big thank you for the amazing tribute you and the other guys did for Michael last night…..truly beautiful. May you all continue on in love, hope and safety.

  51. koali Says:

To appreciate Michael Jackson was to appreciate the embodiment of artistic performance and music. The wonderful thing about him was that, even years after having any hit songs, he continued to inspire and encourage others to use pieces of him as part of a new creation. He allowed artists to sample his tracks and he played audience to dance icons paying tribute to his famous dance moves and nodded in approval.
On a whim last Halloween, I thought I would go meet up with a group of fun-loving people wanting to perform the Thriller dance on Hollywood and Highland to set a Guinness World Record. I had learned that dance as a kid, from watching it so many times. I remember staying up watching MTV all night with my cousin- we were just praying Thriller would come on. When it did we screamed in delight, soaking in every detail of that amazing video until we could get our hands on a videotape of it.
Performing with that group was amazing, not just for the interest it created, but for the unexpected surprise at the end when Mr. Jackson called the organizer to thank her for our performance and announce his upcoming world tour. I’m so sorry it didn’t happen for him. Regardless of the mixed feelings people had about his personal trials, I think all the world will miss him dearly.

  52. Southernbelle Says:

As usual, your words were beautiful. MJ was a musical genius and will be missed.

  53. lori5674 Says:

    Donnie,

That is very well put. People always see the faults in people before they see the the good things about them, until they die. Michael Jackson was a human being and he put his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone. On one of the local radio stations they were making fun of Michael, it is very disturbing that people can have that kind of reaction for a dead human being. That shows disrespect to all of humanity. That man has lived in a fish bowl his entire life and even in death. He could not even be transported to the coronors office with out everyone watching. I hope that the media gives the Jackson family there appropriate time to grieve. That family feels grief just like the rest of the human population, therefore they should be allowed time to deal with this situation and grieve over the loss of one of their family members. Michael, yes, was an AMERICAN icon, a great entertainer of all times, but they have to remember that this man was a SON, BROTHER, FATHER, FRIEND, ect. He felt happiness, pain, sorrow, and all the same emotions that each of us feel, as people. So please let the family of Michael Jackson have the private time to mourn the loss that they are experiencing.
Although I do not know the Jackson family personally, My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Rest In Peace Michael….. May you fly with angels.

  59. cnhernandez07 Says:

I grew up on his music, my mother recalls Michael’s “Wanna be Startin’ somethin’” was the first song I danced to. I was in my first year of life holding on to the entertainment center in front of the radio as it played and I shook my diapered booty, and repeated yeah, yeah! LOL! I was hooked, I have grown to love his musical legacy, he was a true Showman, no one and I mean no one will ever compare. I did not know him personally and therefore can and will never have any right to judge him in that realm. I did however know his musical genius has been with me since my booty shakin’ diaper days, and that he will forever live on in my heart. No matter how you remember Michael Jackson or in what light you shine on him good or bad recognize this…You will REMEMBER him and not many can have that effect on a Nation.

Love you Donnie I know he was an inspiration for you as he was to many. God Bless you and thank you for sharing your feelings with us.

    The entire world loves MJ!

    I wish peace for him.

I’m still in disbelief. It hasn’t truly sunk in what has happened.

When I first heard Michael was being rushed to the hospital, I had to catch my breath. Like 9/11, I was glued to the tv and all if a sudden it was 9:30pm and I didn’t have dinner. Michael will forever inspire me! (Donnie, you and the rest of NKOTB will forever inspire me too–Thank you.)

    I love you always

Donnie, I couldn’t agree with you more. He was an Universal Icon. We should remember him for his talent and music, not the life that he lived. I know that he was a very big influnce in all of your lives. It must have come as a shock that just last month you were rehearsing in the same space, just steps away from one another. Personally, everytime I hear MJ’s music it always remind me of happy times. My prayers go out to the entire Jackson family. Also I am very proud to be a NKOTB fan, because last night’s tribute to MJ in Clevland was beautiful!!!
RIP Michael Jackson…your music will live on forever.

  67. vaness-france Says:

I have never been a fan of Michael Jackson, and probably will never be. But I have always said that he was a genious. And no matter what will happen now, how great will be the artists to come, he will always be that genious and no one will never been able to be better then him.

My thoughts go to his family, friends and fans. But they especially go to his children.

Michael, I don’t know where you are, but I hope that you found the peace you have always deserved. At last…

    Love.

  68. kgdzine Says:

Michael Jackson was unquestionably the biggest pop star of the ’80s, and certainly one of the most popular recording artists of all time. On a performance level Michael Jackson was badass! He wowed billions and countless people looked up to him. On a personal level he was a troubled man who, like many didn’t like what he saw in the mirror. Michael’s only real getaway was being on stage. He felt at home there. Off stage was a battle for Michael. He was always in the spotlight for something.

I have never met Michael Jackson or gone to any of his concerts. I was just a fan of his artistry and am saddened by his quick, unexpected departure. Rest in peace Michael Jackson. (And rest in peace Farrah Fawcett. I want to add that I feel sorry for Farrah Fawcett, even though her death was expected. Michael Jackson’s death overshadowed hers within the quickness.)

  69. sweetmelliemel Says:

Thank you for sharing those kind words, Donnie. In all the sadness and emotional turmoil I’ve been dealing with in MJ’s passing, I think I figured out why you 5 are here. You always say it’s no accident NKOTB got back together during this day and age, and I agree. I feel in the wake of a tragedy you 5 were placed back in our lives to give us hope in a dream that will be carried on forever. If it weren’t for Michael Jackson there would be no NKOTB (or other pop artist for that matter) and now you all are here to carry on that legacy for him through your fans. No, there is no duplication or comparison to the magic of MJ, but I believe you 5 men came back to us to help continue and keep alive the passion, artistry, love, and commitment that MJ paved the way for.
Thank you for the tribute to Michael’s life and legacy..he will be forever cherished, remembered, and missed. Don’t stop till you get enough!

It really saddens me to know people would have something negative to say in the passing of MJ. People need to remember that before anything Michael is someone’s son, brother, and father. The negative comments that are being mad have effect on others.
He may do some things in his personal life that we may find strange but none of us know what kind of life this man had. We don’t know what lead him to be that way. We also have to remember that some of the legal issues that surrounded Mike were never proven so who are we to judge?
Michael was a great musician who paved the way for many of the artists we know and love today. He was a pure musical genius and will be sorely missed.

R.I.P Michael Jackson! We love you!!

  77. Brandie_25 Says:

I could not have said it any better. Thank you Donnie for expressing my exact sentiments on the life of Michael Jackson. I was talking to my friend Ali last night and we both have continued to be supportive of Michael through out the years despite the controversy that surrounded him during the last decade of his life. Every time I’d see his performances at the American Music Awards and other award shows, I was excited again like I was back then when I saw those performances LIVE on TV. He will be greatly missed.

Also, I saw the youtube video of your tribute to him in Detroit. I was in tears and had the knot in my throat this morning. Thank you for doing that and I wish I had been there to share that special moment with you guys. Although I did with loved ones here in town, which is just as good. Xoxo ~Brandie (Fresno, CA)

MJ was my first experience with bonding w/another race. The friend that I made with her sharing her brand new Thriller Record with me has led to a friendship that is now 30 years old. The common bonds that he created to help people cross lines and see the world for what it SHOULD be not for what it IS, are truly a blessing.

Thank you for writing, Donnie. You guys mean so very much to me.

I loved Michael Jackson. I believe I was 8 or 9 when I fell in love. (Off the Wall was amazing!) I was 10 when Thriller came out. Wow! He was my first crush. I always dreamed of seeing him in concert, but never got the chance. We couldn’t get tickets in 1984 when the Victory tour came to Kansas City. I always thought I’d get a chance to see him live someday. Now he’s gone. I didn’t want to believe it. I’m still so upset about it. The world just seems different.

When I heard he was really gone, I kept thinking about all the fun I had when I was young with my sister and a friend talking about Michael and listening to his music. I remember a time we even danced our “Billie Jean” routine inside a Kmart in 1983. We got some funny looks, but we danced anyway. :-)

My favorite song of his was “Rock With You.” I always dreamed of dancing with a man I loved to that song. Maybe someday.

I never believed all the awful things people said about him. I knew he was different, but I never ever ever joined in with all those haters that were horrible to him.

He will be sorely missed. Donnie, I wasn’t at the Detroit concert, but I heard you guys paid a tribute to him. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly love you guys more. You guys have my heart forever!

    Always love from the Heartland,

Bravo New Kids for paying tribute to a legend. Your tribute to Michael last night in Detroit was so touching. I was impressed with what you put together in such short notice. The music, the pictures and the words. Very well done and classy. The audience singing Man in the Mirror brought tears to my eyes. I will always remember where I was when I heard the news of his passing…I am glad you will forever be a part of that memory.

And Donnie, I have to say, the tribute you guys did to him last night in Detroit was a CLASS ACT. You all are so amazing and I am more grateful today for all 5 of you, than I ever have been in my whole life. I love you all.

No doubt that Michael Jackson was an entertainer that made a mark in the industry. His dance moves were copied, his style was copied….How many people did I know back in the day that had a single white glove or owned one of those zippered jackets?? It was crazy. It’s a shame that he lived under a microscope, but that is the price that some performers pay for the genius that they bring to the table.
My favorite memory will always be listening to the THRILLER vinyl on my mother’s turntable stereo and watching the THRILLER video on MTV. Maybe that’s why I’m so obsessed with Horror movies and the special effects in them to this day! Thanks for the memories Michael. You will be missed, but your legacy will remain.

my sentiments exactly, dew. it’s sad that our society as a whole tends to focus on the negativity, than rejoice and celebrate peoples’ triumphs. i’ve read so many hateful mj posts on twitter/facebook in the last 24 hours and it’s disheartening that people feel the need to focus on the trivial/unknown, especially at a time when so many grieve. this man was the most prolific entertainer of all time, as far as i’m concerned. he’s inspired so many(including me), which is clearly abundant in pop culture today. your tribute last night touched my heart and was apparent on your face, too. the people at the apollo last night brought me to tears. not b/c of his passing, b/c they came together to celebrate his life, singing his songs, sharing stories, etc. his music/spirit will live on forever. thanks for sharing your perspective. you are a man w/ a heart of gold. *love*

He was so amazing, he stopped for all his fans and gave autographs. I am so glad that my NK journey allowed me the icing of meeting Michael. I hope that people will remember Michael for his legacy, the gifts he gave us, they are priceless. Will you guys please consider including him on the “If you go away” tribute? Not sure if you guys are still doing that for summer… haven’t watched any spoilers. Maybe Joey Joe can sing “I’ll be there” :) - Miriam WBTV

Its so sad that in todays society you can go from having it all to losing it all at the flick of the switch controlled by other people. How can someone with such worldwide greatness for all those years be left the way he was in the last decade??? Im sure he didnt reach where he did on his on and it was only fueled on by those who must have at the time seemed to be his nearest and dearest and those who he thought must have had his best interests at heart. I think anyone who manages any level of worldwide fame has the weight of the world on their shoulders and i think unless you have been there you cant understand. That is why i love what you guys are doing and the risk you must have taken when you decided you wanted to come back, and why you are always saying how much you love your fans because you are there right now in the whole worldwide fame game, for the second time, you crazy fools :o)

It’s hard not to be affected by the passing of this music ICON. A true LEGEND who was probably too often misunderstood. Listening to and reading all of the heartfelt things people have said about this man whom they are indebted to, who inspired them, a man whose music had so much influence on the world as we know it today (whether people choose to recognize it or not); I find myself in tears. Not because I knew him personally, but because it’s a beautiful thing to see/hear what this man meant to so many and to remember how his music has been such a big part of my life growing up and even as an adult.
I am truly disturbed by how some people lack sensitivity to other people’s feelings on a day like this- in the wake of such a tragedy; how people forget that despite everything, he was a person who had a family too. And no matter how you may have felt about him or the troubles he’s had as an adult, it’s in seriously poor taste and bad judgement to make jokes at his expense regarding those troubles today. Have some respect for his family, allow them time to grieve. People need to think about how they would feel if these comments/jokes were about them and made their way back to their family right after they passed. Whether these people liked him or not he had such an influence on soo many, in so many ways and that is seriously something that people should recognize commands RESPECT. In reading your statement regarding Michael Jackson, I know that you truly get it! It’s unfortunate that others in our society don’t.

I have mad love and much respect the talent that it takes to become an artist like Michael Jackson. I may have never had the opportunity to see him in person but I do thank him for sharing his gift with me & the rest of the world. RIP Michael Jackson, you will always be loved & remembered!

I still can’t believe he’s not here. Even though I was born in 1980, that does not mean that he was *NOT* an influence in my life…I grew up on his music…so this loss is a complete shock to me…..I mean it’s MICHAEL JACKSON. He’s an ICON! I admired him from a far. “Billie Jean” was my absolute favorite Michael song…I just can’t believe it…I’m numb. Donnie, you have hit the nail on the head…it’s sad that all of his crazy antics made news, other than what an awesome artist he was. It’s weird to be talking about him in the past tense…my heart is heavy. I hope God helps his family, and most of all, his kids. This must be so heartbreaking to lose him….gosh. My prayers are with his whole family! He certainly be missed. There’s a big void in the world of music…no one will take the place of MICHAEL JACKSON! NO ONE! He has paved the way for many great people in the future (you guys included). No matter what anyone says, regardless of race, what everyone believes, we were all created in God’s image, and Michael is our BROTHER!!!! He is gone….he is in a better place now…RIP MICHAEL J. I am so greatful that you were able to put into words exactly what I have been feeling. People attempt to take away what Michael has accomplished by influencing today’s artist who grew up on him, but it can never be disputed that he helped shape the world of music today. Michael was a great artist and will/should never be forgotten for his contributions to all of our lives. I remember hearing you say on BET when NKOTB first came out how though you were compared to New Addition that credit needs to go to the Jackson 5 because that was your guys true predecessors. From the beginning you have always been humble and given credit where credit is do and for that I thank you.

Like you said Donnie~ that is a testament to a true talent and legend. I feel he was a spirit that many did not understand, and I truly hope his soul is at peace. Michael~ you are missed!

  116. Katherine H. Says:

He was/is/will always be the MASTER of Creative Geniuses.

No matter what one may have thought of him personally…you can’t ignore the gift & the inspiration that he was to people as a performer. Like many, I grew up listening to his music since I was only 4. Watched that Thriller video over & over & listened to my cassette tape so many times that I warped it. Michael Jackson solidified my love for music and really ignited & stoked the fire that made me want to become involved in the creation process of this industry.

Its surreal to me that just last month, I was at CS waiting for you across the street when this darkened vehicle pulls in. Having no clue, I asked one of the CS people who was it that made a group of 10 fans freak out…He smiled & said it was Mr. Jackson. I didn’t freak out. I just remember sitting there & thinking how surreal: the man that I consider to be my first inspiration is here while the other man who inspired me just as much is over there.

I didn’t bum rush the vehicle as his fans did. The man had enough invasion of privacy through out his life. Not even seeing him…I still had a moment that I will never forget.

Michael Jackson should be honored for the entertainer/performer that he was. And that’s what I plan to do.

Thank you for honoring him at your show.

And thank you for honoring him with your words.

    Thank you.

I still can’t believe he’s left us and as you said it, I think the journalists poke their noses into things that don’t concern them. Everybody should have a right to privacy and MJ was deprived of this very important aspect of his life.

He was a huge part of my childhood. I was only 7 when Thriller was released. I have so many memories of singing and “trying” to do the moonwalk etc… Its hard to see and come to grips that I am aging and seeing entertainers from my childhood pass on.

It amazes me how often I totally agree with what you say DDub. The press is all about the negative and very rarely do they want to post anything positive. No wonder people’s morale is so low. MJ is a legend and always will be. It is the positive people that will remember all his great songs, concerts etc. Only the negative will remember what the media tried to show of him. Regardless of what the media brought about him. The fact remains about his Thriller ablum and more. The numbers speak for themselves. Period. I can’t imagine what the life of a “star” is like. when I do the only thing I ever consistently come up with is . . NO PRIVACY. We all enjoy our privacy and it seems that people tend to forget that Stars are real people too and yes they do want privacy as well. It’s called Respect. 144. SILVERGOLD7 Says:

    Donnie,
I completely agree with this reflection of MJ. You remain to be extremely tasteful, respectful, kind, and honest. It is beyond sad & tragic that this society is so overly obsessed with the private lives of others (especially celebrities) that people like MJ could not be offered any respect and privacy in his youth, adulthood, and now death. I pray he is, at last, in peace now.
    Sincerely,
    Sylvia aka Silvergold7

  151. sashak24 Says:

I am so completely devastated by MJ’s death. DW could not have said it better. What an incredible talent; for myself, a retired dancer, having studied him through the years he was by far one of the most talented I have ever seen…many times copied but never ever duplicated. I will always remember being glued to the TV to see his performances and will always remember where I was when hearing of his death. My thoughts and prayers to his family especially his children. The loss of a father is hard in ones 30s but to be in your teens is unimaginable.

I agree with you Donnie. As you know the media is cold and careless. The fact is that a MAN has died. I thank Michael Jackson for his music. It was the soundtrack and inspiration behind so many memories that I share with my family. Hey brother, lets play thriller! I choose to remember that you were a person, a child of god, someone’s:

    SON
    BROTHER
    NEPHEW

Michael Jackson was the best pop performer ever.
Even though there was alot of rumors and controversies about him, he still kept releasing great hits. He will always be “The King of Pop”.
Its a shame that he was gone too fast and so unexpectedly. He is the greatest legend of pop music.
I’m sure he is dancing and singing in heaven with God and the Guardian Angels.

I loved MJ every since he moonwalked into my little five-year old heart. Before my love affair with NKOTB, I had a major crush on Michael and my love for him and his music never went away. He will greatly be missed. Just like many mourned over Elvis’ passing nearly 31 years ago, our generation is experiencing the dejavu all over again. Just remember: MJ is with God, Jesus, and His angels. Michael is now at peace and performing for all those in heaven (including my dad).

May MJ RIP and Father, in Jesus Name, I ask you to give peace and comfort to Michael’s family, friends, loved ones, and his fans. Amen.

    Donnie,
Thank you for your kind words about Michael Jackson. My name is Jeremy Fearer, and I am 31 years old. On Tuesday 6.23.09 my friends and I went to see you guys at Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, OH(awesome show by the way) this was my 4th nk concert! Yesterday when I was at work, I found out that Michael Jackson had died. At first, I thought it was a joke until I read about it online. I remember his first music video, Thriller, and the lp which my older sister had, I remember having the Michael Jackson glove and microphone and the Bad cassette tape(great lp) as a kid. But most importantly, I remember the love he showered on those less fortunate and underpriveledged. He will always be an angel in my book and gone too soon!
RIP MJ we mj/nk fans love and remember you.
    Love,
    Jeremy Fearer

  163. amina_mimi Says:

It must have been so hard to do DT last night as I’m sure the news of MJ had a great affect on the group yesterday.

The stars alligned for Michael way before he even knew it. God chose Michael Jackson to inspire the music world and the world at large. The way Michael Jackson did Michael Jackson was like no other and that only comes from one place that can’t be put into words. The mark he left on the world is historic. I am absolutely devastated. The world has lost the single most happiest ray of light and the world will never ever shine the same way. Life from June 25th is forever changed but how greatful we are to know that his legacy will live on. May his soul finally find the peace it deserves and may his music stamp continue to inspire the New Kids as it did then, now and always.

    Amina

  177. Male-Heterosexual-NKOTB-Fan Says:

Man Donnie is so right… I loved Michael Jacksons music since I was a small boy, and now at 31 it’s amazing to think of how long he was in the lime light! He is a true icon who’s name is bigger then most countries!

You can go anywhere in this entire planet, and people know who Michael Jackson is! Before even Coke & Pepsi they knew who Michael Jackson was.
This is by far the saddest I’ve ever been over a celebrity death since Tupac Shakur died… Being that im 31 I consider both to be voices of my generation, and they both inspired me so much, and this death hurts as much as pac’s death.

I’ve not cried over anyones passing who’s not related to me but when I heard the news of Mikes death I shed a tear… It’s incredibly sad that he’s gone… Now maybe even the haters could grow to understand his life, and learn that hating on a man for being different is just not cool.

Michael preached love, and peace, and sadly he didn’t get to much of that from some people at the last few years of his life but it’s incredible to see the out pouring of love for him.

He will always be in my heart, and in my memories, and I thank him from the bottom of my soul that he left us so much wonderful material to listen to, and watch so we could never forget him.

    Michael Jackson is ETERNAL…

I am so shocked and saddened by Michael’s death. I have always been a fan of his work, growing up listening to the Bad album etc. He was a true musical genius and his music is as relevant today as when it was first released. Unfortunately his life was surrounded by controversy, but no-one other than his family and friends, really knew Michael, so I certainly will not judge him. I do believe he was a good person with a gentle soul, someone who cared about people, the planet and animals; something I really respect him for. My thoughts go out to his family and friends, and especially to his children. His genius will be sorely missed. RIP MJ. Stacey xxx

when I’ve heard of his death, I thought of you guys and especially Jordan, who’s a big fan if I’m not wrong.
I’ve seen your tribute you did yesterday night, and guys, you made me cry… I wish I could see some more…

Like an other fan who left a comment, I also thought about the day you’ll die guys (whenn you’ll be 100 years old or more I hope!!)… I’d lost a part of myself, all those “teenages” years when you meant the world to me, and you still do, i’m so proud, so lucky to be your fan! so glad you are back!!
    RIP Mickael….

He had amazing songs out and it is a shame that there are not going to be anymore. He will definitley be missed by everyone. XOXOXOXO-Elissa B(mickey0817)

R.I.P. Michael Jackson! May you find the peace you were never able to have here on earth! And may the world give it to you, and remember that we are mere humans, and it is not up to us to judge each other. I hope society learns from yet another star that has died too young, because of the microscope that we put them under. We push them over the edge, and laugh when they break.
And shame on all these doctors who knowingly over prescribe these people. In the past few years we have watched, Anna Nicole, Heath Ledger, MJ…..just to name a few, die because of prescribed medication! Yes they are stars, and we are interested in them, but they are people, and they do break. And when they are gone, they are gone.
My heart goes out to his 3 beautiful children.
Michael will live on forever, as the world for generations to come, sings and dances to his music!!

I keep telling folks that you are a TRIPLE THREAT: talented (music and acting industries, etc), kind hearted (fans/children)and a guy who appreciates where he came from and where he is now. Your energy and level of drive to enjoy life is an inspiration to everyone around you. The last couple of years have been difficult for us but we are enjoying every moment of your re-emergence. No joke Michael Jackson was the true performer. His life should of been left alone just like everyone else in the public eye. Your personal life should be just that personal. But with that said, “rest in peace michael” you will be missed, not forgotten.

  207. jexiheart Says:

DW I absolutely agree with you. It is almost impossible to believe that something like that just happened. When I heard the news I thought they were lying, it was impossible!! He was a full artist and I think the world has lost one of the best performers and dancers ever.

    God bless him!

  208. EMMAB Says:

I’m in shock still. I had tickets to see Michael at the O2 in January 2010, when I got them I said to my friend I can’t beleive were going its too good to be true. To say im gutted is an understatement. I’m not sad for myself, Im sad for his Children and for all of those people who he gave hope and inspiration too. Before I found NKOTB I had Michael Jackson. I grew up listening to the Thriller Album then Bad came out and I was hooked. As a Kid I was literally in awe of him. I remember when his Video for “The way you make me feel” was previewed here in the UK for the first time, my whole family, Parents, Nan & Grandad, Aunts and Uncles, cousins, all watched together. We all loved him. I hope he finds the peace and happiness he never seemed to have when he was alive. God bless you Michael. You were and are still an Angel. xxx

I still can’t believe he’s really gone. When I was about 12, before NKOtB, I used to idolize him. Back then, I even had fantasies about marrying him. My brother and I would listen to the radio and wait for one of his songs to play. When songs like Dirty Diana and Man in the Mirror came on we would sing along and my brother would do the moonwalk. My brother Chris, is heartbroken. I am in total shock and disbelief. Now I’m wishing that after my teenage yrs I had more closely followed his career, but sadly I’ll never get the chance. I agree exactly to your statement Donnie. Our society mainly focuses on the negative crap and not on the good people do. Personally, I’ve always believed that Michael was a good man. I hope that he is now resting in peace. Thank you for the tribute, it was very touching. You guys are always the best! I love all of you endlessly!!!!!!!!

You are so right with your statement,DW … am to speechless to organize my thoughts at the moment.

And if the toxical results will be published & his “doctor” has said the truth to the police .. may we’ll know more about the medical backgroung of his death.

The personal side … we’ll never know.We didn’t know him in person,we were never friends.
But we’ll love him forever .. whatever will happen.

Created a Tshirt for myself today&will wear it with 100000000% pride.Don’t care where or when then.

And will be with my kolleg tomorrow to write something into the condolence book for him at Madame Tussauds here in Berlin.Michael,my kolleg,is american too & a bigger fan of Michael then me … we’ll hold each other tomorrow … could never do this alone.

I definetly agree with you, Donnie. Michael is the greatest entertainer that ever lived in the century. He is the one reason I became a dancer. I’m going to miss him A LOT. I’m going to regret that this year during my school talent show, I should’ve done a Michael performance with all his #1 songs. I need to be hugged right now. The other day, I had a dream I hugged all 5 of you and then your management cancelled the concert because of that. Please, don’t cancel any of your concerts. Anyways, I love you 5 guys and the “King of Pop”.

Gosh…I am still in shock I think. I was in LOVE with Michael Jackson as a teenager. He was and will always be the “KING” of “POP”. No matter what anyone says he was a great man and loved by many. I am glad I had the honor see and know who MJ was. He was my first love and then as I got older I had six…him and all of you. I watched on youtube your tribute and I think you guys are so freaking awesome. It put me in tears to watch. It was like seeing all my favorites on one stage together. R.I.P. Michael. I’m glad you guys got together to do this thing in time. I regret Michael didn’t. Thanks for everything you guys give to all of us. And like Michael you will all be remembered.

I was at the Tinley Park / Chicago show lastnight, and I cried like a little kid when you did your beautiful tribute to Michael Jackson. It really moved me. I love to dance and learned my first moves from Michael. This really hit me hard and I can’t get over it. I feel a hole in my heart where my love of dance is because I know it all started with Michael for me. Time does heal all wounds, but this doesn’t even seem real to me. Thank you NKOTB for being there right at the right moment for me when I needed a little joy and happiness to remind me there are so many others that have touch my life in the same was as Michael Jackson. NKOTB you bring me that same feeling so please as your song if you go away says. Please don’t ever go away!

Thank you for saying so perfectly what I’ve been wanting to say since this devastating event happened, DW. Donnie,

I was at your show on Thursday night at DTE in Michigan. What an amazing tribute you all paid to the King of Pop! Although in recent years Michael’s music did not appeal to me as much I have such vivid moving memories of him as a child. My first concert was the Jacksons’s Victory Tour at the age of 10. My great grandmother who has now passed bought eight tickets for my family and me to see the Jackson’s at the Pontiac Silverdome. My parents, brother, aunt, uncle and two cousins all went. It was quite the family outing!!! My cousin wore his red leather jacket with the zippers of course. As I have been watching the news within these beginning days of his death I can’t help but smile as I remember my yesterdays. I recall my family renting Thriller and watching the entire documentary on our very new VCR. I remember hanging posters in my room and trying to moon walk myself. I must say that your Thursday night show seemed very surreal to me. We always remember where we are when we hear news so tragic. How ironic that I at the age of 35 was at a New Kids concert just remembering my yesterdays and my youth with such fondness. I will always recall where I was when Princess Diana and
John F. Kennedy Jr. passed. Likewise, I will never forget that I was at a New Kids Concert on the eve of Michael Jackson’s death nor will I ever forget the touching tribute you paid. I have heard it said that life is not remembered in days but in moments. Thank you for the moments and memories on June 25, 2009 when you paid tribute to one so dear and encouraged all of us to live life to the fullest. Life is fragile and sacred. May we all live abundant lives filled with love, joy and peace. May Michael now rest in peace.
    God Bless,

Michael will forever be one of my childhood idols and I love him dearly. After all, as a 10 year old I would tell my mom I was going to marry Michael one day each time I watched one of his videos. :) I can still remember the excitement every time Smooth Criminal came on Mtv. Thank you for being a wonderful support of an amazing musician and person.

One Love 4 MJ…from Christie-I Love You Michael
Hello everyone. I want 2 share what I was feeling on the night of 6/25/09 at 2:00 am that brought me to post a video of Michael Jackson on facebook. After I posted a video of dear MJ and I also uploaded some of MJ’s pictures on to my cell phone. The morning of 6/25/09 I got laughed at @ UTPA (the university I go to) for having his pictures of MJ on my phone …now about why I put the video post on facebook….I could not sleep because of something stressful and personal that happen to me. So late at night I had no one to turn to and I wanted to smile and feel at ease and happy again. I turned to Michael, I knew he could lift me up. So I began to You Yube Michael’s Interview with that British man, there I relearned the moon walk when Michael was teaching it to him. I also You Tube some other videos of MJ. I was feeling a connection. After this connection made forget about my worries, I started feeling this strong premonition of “how sad I would feel if anything were 2 happen 2 Michael” I began 2 cry, and quickly those tears went away because Michael was on his go cart having so much fun in Neverland. I didn’t think it would happen today 6/25/09. I can’t explain why I had these feelings for Michael. Premonition perhaps. If I had his number I would have called him.”Michael is everything ok?” Later those people from the university and facebook asked me, “how did you know?”… I am 34 years old and I still am very youthful and don’t look my age, Like MJ I also love animals and amusement parks. I can relate to how MJ’s felt about staying young. Even my parents tell me, “grow up act your age.” The news of sweet MJ hit me hard. I cried in my car for a very long time as I had MJ’s song on repeat “GONE TOO SOON.” I still cry a lot and I don’t watch the TV or go out to public places. I deleted those on my Facebook or my Cell phone who make jokes. I don’t stand for that. I never got to meet MJ nor see him in concert but I still felt very close to him. All I can say is that Michael inspired me to become the dancer that I am today. I have so many Michael memories. From Red Leather Zipper Jackets to Practicing MJ’s dance moves. I love you MJ. U R not alone. This is a very hard time for MJ’s 3 children, the Jackson family and his closest friends, my heart goes out to all of you, I love you. Also, a very difficult time for all the celebrity choreographers that I have studied under that shared their stories with me as they were MJ’s back up dancer. The dance community is taking this hard and I am with all of you. I know MJ would want “us” to be happy and not to be sad for him. He would want us to continue his “message.” MJ loves us all-he said so himself. Michael lives on in each one of us. There are not enough words to say how I feel. I love you MJ. One love 4 MJ….GONE TOO SOON.

I totally agree Donnie with you comment…… Michael is the true king of Pop. I hope people find it in there hearts to remember him as a unique and very talented artist. With what i believe a heart of gold.

He was very fortunated in his career….and that brought him the succes that was so beyond all people…probably even himself.

It makes his live like hell. He never could do things spontanously because it was always printed on the next day tabloidpapers. All the speculations about his person and privated life. Let the man be!

I feel sad the genious couldn’t be left alone and that took his toll in all kinds of way. His mind and his looks. But thank god not his soul.

The last years he was solid and started to be indoors all lot of his time. And probably be lonely, standing on endless highed above all.

I really breaks my heart thinking that he never could enjoy his childhood and was heavy damaged by it. That formed his whole life. That was a red line in his life.

I hope Michael find the well urned rest he deserved and all the happiness in the world. He watching over us like an angel. Because he is one!

I would dancing to “Beat it” holding the record album under my arm. This is my first moment that I fell in love with him. After the years and decades that passed. He Will always be the NUMBER ONE Singer & Dancer in my book. He was amazing, and will always be the KING OF POP! I totally agree with your statement Donnie. Michael was and always will be the best performer in the music industry. He touched millions of lives and everyone knew of him for his dancing and music. Michael was and still is my all time favourite idol in music- it was him that got me into music! And yeah he did have a lot of bad press and media surrounding him with his private life all the time but people need to start thinking about his music ability and his career rather than his private life.
He was an entertainer and a performer- we should remember him for that!

Donnie, I was so shocked when I showed up at the Detroit show on Friday (which was my birthday, no less) and found out that Michael Jackson had passed away. We had been listening to New Kids music on my iPod on the way up from Toledo and had no idea until we heard other people talking and asked the ticket lady what had happened. My best friend and I were completely stunned; it seemed so surreal. I remember sitting up on the hill, waiting for you to come out, and I saw a beautiful rainbow flash over to our left, just for a few minutes, before disappearing. My friend saw it too, and said that it had come from Michael.

The tribute you gave to Michael was outstanding - considering it was pulled together in such a short time. When you all began singing “I’ll Be There,” my friend and I swayed to the music and sang along with our arms around each other, crying in memory of a man who touched millions of lives in his lifetime. Michael was an incredibly talented, yet troubled person, and I pray that his soul feels the love that the entire world is sending his way, and that he finds the peace that he never quite found in life. God bless you, Michael. We will love you forever.

I never met him, but I believe he was so genuine, and was more involved in humanitarian efforts and messages of peacce and love than most politians or leaders could ever do. hw was truly an amazing person, and will be very missed. It is ashame that he couldn’t have peace while alive and now he still can’t get it in death. It is amazing how the world is today. Michael (no last name needed), was without a doubt the best performer that our generation has or will ever see. I was looking forward in seeing how his reunion concert would do as I am with yours. When I think of MJ so many memories come to mind. Billy Jean, Thriller, Ben, and of cource Gone Too Soon, a song that once reminded me of you.

As you move forward in life I have to admit I believe the things his talent taught us was AWSOME! But as you go out there every night remember the quote from MJ, “If I inspire someone to do what I do I will be blessed” He was blessed in life with so much pain. When I think of MJ I smile, his pain on this world has left to be Blessed with the Lord on his side. I wonder if he’s teaching George Burns how to do the moon Walk.

My friends and I were saying the same thing. Michael Jackson was the ONE performer that I always wanted to see perform but sadly never got the chance. MJ was my childhood, he electrified the screen every time he debuted a new video. “Smooth Criminal” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” were two of my favorite songs, it was impossible to not watch him dance and groove to those slammin’ beats! I feel like a piece of my childhood has died along with him but I am forever grateful that I had the privilege of hearing and watching him while he was here…I only hope those who follow will truly understand all he went through so that music of all types could be explored and the success be put to wonderful use in aiding those who may not be able to speak for themselves.
Thanks for those great words, D, I only wish I could have been at your show with the tribute…however I would have cried the whole way through lol!

Donnie, you’re alright. I was 8 in 1983 when I first about MJ in France. At that time, he was soooo cuuuute and at his peak and always sending million of stars to his fan’s faces. That how I felt and still feel now and for the ages to come. Every teen wanted to look like him including my two brothers who are a little younger than you. I became a fan of the NKOTB’s music later, I just wanted to say that there are a lot MJ in you and in the other members of the band. This is his statement, you are his kids just like the other R’n'B artists. Take care guys, I won’t cry, I won’t be crying on Tuesday, I’ll be celebrating his life because his music is pure happiness. Keep on running guys ! You are offering us so much joy to us the former young ladies of the 80’s and 90’s :-)

    Donnie,
When I was on Facebook, one of my relatives was telling me about MJ, and I didn’t believe him. But, when I saw it on the news, my heart just stopped. I couldn’t stop from sobbing. I am planning on making his cd’s through Itunes sometime in the near future. Sorry I can;t attend the concert in Irvine. Got prior commitments.

Couldn’t agree more DW! I guess my birthday will never be the same ever again. On the 25th of June the world has lost a musical genius, a joy to many people. Listening to his music makes everybody happy and if you like his music or not, you know the words. He will never be forgotten and his music will live on in our heart. You’ll be missed and thank you for inspireing so many of the artists we love today.

I totally agree with you Donnie. I think that Michael revolutionized the Pop industry. Pop music will never be the same. Michael will be sadly missed, but I hope that know he can get the peace he always wanted…….RIP Michael…..Teresa

Donnie, I couldn’t agree with you more about MJ. It’s all about his music, his heart, and his intentions to be a good person. Not his pain, what we see, or hear..or choose to believe.

Such a sad loss for our world.

By the way, I’m the girl who gave you the letter about my sick stepfather at the cruise. Please pray for myself and my mom with the guys. He passed June 24th. He was home from the hospital and not alone, we were holding his hands. A beautiful ending to a beautiful life. Thanks for the kis on the cheek in regards to my pain.

    Love,

    Nicole and her mom Violet

Not only was he an amazing performer, from all accounts I’ve heard/read, MJ was wonderful to his fans. I’ve never heard about a negative encounter. Perhaps you could learn a thing or two from him, Mr. Wahlberg. Better yet, why don’t you sit back and watch how Jon and Danny treat fans because they were amazing to me and you were a full on a-hole. Oh, and someone who worked on a film with you told me you were an a-hole back then too. At least you’re consistent. Hugs!
