BOOK DRIVE FAQ

Hey!!!

Couple of answers to FAQ (just found out what FAQ meant)
Frequently asked questions!!!!!
Here goes:
It has to be a NEW childrens book.
Age range for books is preferably  infant to 5 years.
BUT if you have a favorite book that you feel compelled
to purchase that is a little older in age range go for it.
By all means, do local book drives that are inspired by Let’s Get This.
There have been a lot of great ideas! We can take those books from you
at the shows and get them in the right hands.
Volunteers will be notified with-in about a week of the show.
We wish we could pick all of you, but we narrowed it down to 10 for each show-
all of you are incredibly qualified- professionally and passionately
and I look forward to expanding Let’s Get This Foundation
and leaning on everyone to take this to new heights.
To all those who wanted to volunteer with their kids,
I think that it’s great to get them involved. Please have them
come by and drop off a book, but it might not be the best situation for kids
to do the actual volunteering :)
The volunteers are important, but its everyone else’s job to keep them busy
by bringing lots of new books!!!
Thank you again to everyone for all the amazing e-mails-
you are really pumping me up and inspiring me to go further.
This is only the beginning!!!
Everybody now…. Let’s Get This!!!

  10. ktsummer Says:

Thanks Joe! All good to know.

I have an idea that you may have thought of already. Since not every fan who attends a concert may visit this website to know of the book drive, could you have kiosks or laptops available at the drop off sites that they could use to go online and order books? I’d bet lots of people will see the collection and wish they had known earlier but then go home and forget about it. If there was a place where they could purchase books on the spot, I’m sure many would take advantage.

Just a thought! Let’s get this!

Let’s Get This together!!! Love you Joey Mac!

  25. ktsummer Says:

I had another idea, which is surprising since it’s a Monday. Was thinking more about the order online kiosks and considered that it may be too much trouble to transport and set up computers at each station (although you could always get a few of those little netbooks and aircards, which would be small and inexpensive).

In any case, I thought if people can’t order on the spot, maybe they could give money you could use to buy books later. That would require a permanent staffer as I’m sure you wouldn’t leave a random volunteer to oversee cash, but you must have a few that will be in each city to train the newbies.

Maybe I’m just making trouble with these ideas; just trying to figure out how to involve more than the website visitors. I’m done now (I think).

    See you in Holmdel.
    Katie (again)

  26. tonib Says:

  46. sweettina429 Says:

I will be at the Camden show and would love to volunteer. I’m in marketing and so many ideas popped into my head. I’ll share this one thought with you an 5 million sisters. What if proceeds from each ticket go towards the Let’s Get This Foundation? It could get so big and turn into, well, possibly a bookstore/library on wheels kinda thing that visits cities? For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s like an RV but it’s a bookstore/library inside. This is great for people who don’t necessarily have means of transportation to visit a bookstore or a library and/or have the money to purchase new books for themselves or children?

  47. foreverfan79 Says:

    Hey Joe

  55. kkehoe Says:

Joe- The “Let’s Get This” idea is terrific! I am an early childhood special education teacher as well as a parent educator. As part of my job I do home visits with the families that I teach. It is a shame to see the lack of books in these homes.
One of my favorite parts of my job is encouraging families to read with their children and allow time for their child to explore through the wonder of a book!
This program is a wonderful way to stress the serverity of early intervention through books/reading. Thanks for making an effort!
The joy of reading to a child…watching their minds wonder and imaginations soar is truly a blessing. I plan on bringing a few boxes full of books to the concert. I have 5* is St. Louis on July 1…I hope to see you then. Thanks again for your effort on promoting literacy! I am already a huge supporter and plan on continuing to help support your efforts!

I attended a concert a few years back and this Artist was raising money for the local foodbanks where she performed. For every toonie donated you received a ticket for a draw at a chance to go up on stage have your picture taken with the artiist and autographed by the artist. It didn’t disrupt the show at all. I thought it was an AWESOME idea. A fan was able to meet her idol and support a good cause.

Love it! Love it!! Brilliant idea about the book drive. I am one of those that asked to volunteer with my kids, but I respect your wishes. So I will think of other ways to help, since my kids may come with me to the concert. That depends on how kid friendly I see they are on youtube. So please help me out there. I’ve already told the friends/family going with me to the concert in Memphis about the book drive. They don’t have internet. I have it only at work. Thanks again, Mr. Mac, for the inspiration.

There are 2 books that I bought a few years back. I bought them because the content of the book meant a lot to me. I told myself that I was going to give them to someone very special and for a while they were put away. Now, there’s a very important place and a special reason to pull these books and give them to someone who really needs them. Joe, thanks for doing this. Hey Joe, I am amazed at this fantastic idea Lets Get This! I am currently studying my post grad in Early Childhood ed. It is so important for children to be exposed to quality books early on in their life, it makes such a huge difference. You are doing a great thing… thank you! Would love to help, but being in Australia makes it a bit tricky! Are you collecting books here too?

Oh and guess what, I just saw you guys in the Aussie show 20 to 1 listed on the top 20 sexiest music acts of all time!! How cool is that? They showed your old clips and it threw me back 17 years to when I was a real blockhead! LOL:)

Just a question regarding your Montreal show and this Foundation… Are these books for each city you visit or one in particular? The reason I am asking this is regarding the language requirements of these books, here in Montreal most of the books you find are in French…is this suitable?

    Hi Joey,
This is a great thing that you are doing for the children. I read to my daughter every night before bed, it is are thing we do together. And i did it for my son also, hes a little to old now, he reads to himself. He will be 11. As a matter of fact my sister and I are bring him to your concert on June 18 in Connecticut. It is part of his birthday gift. I was wondering if you guys could maybe say Happy Birthday to him sometime durning the show. It would be the best birthday ever for him. I know its crazy reguest but its worth a shot. His name is Donny and he is going to be 11. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. And I have my books ready to donate. Have a great night and see you on the 18th in Connecticut, Cant wait!!!!!!!!! Lets get This!!!!!! Rebecca

    Hi Joe,
As a kindergarten/dance teacher it’s amazing at the amount of poor quality & inappropriate books there are out for children. We are lucky in Australia that there are quite a few great children’s authors so if you are wanting books from Australia I’m more than happy to bring some to the Melbourne concert as I’m sure your children in the US will love them as much as our kids do.They are easy to read, great moral messages and fantastic illustrations.
I’m actually doing a similar drive at my dance studio for children in Papua New Guinea who can’t afford books, pencils etc so I think it’s a great idea what you are doing and I’m sure all children will thank you!
    Regards,
    Colleen

    Hey Joey!

I was a volunteer at the concert in Saratoga, NY 6/16 - is there any way that Live Nation can put something on the tickets to promote “Let’s Get This?” This would definitely help to collect more books, but you’d just have to make sure there are enough boxes to collect the books in!

This was a great experience - we got a lot of positive feedback from those who brought books to the concert. Some of the children who came with their parents handed us their book - it is wonderful to see the children participating and getting involved with such a wonderful foundation!

Thank you for the opportunity to work with you!

    Let’s Get This growing!!!

    Lots of Love,
    Dorothy

    Hi Joe!

This is fantastic! I’ll be seeing you next week in Detroit. I published my first juvenile fiction book in December 2008. I’m happy to bring a bunch of new copies of the first edition, but it’s a middle reader (targeted for ages 7-12). It’s a fairy tale with universal themes though — and would work for younger girls to read with their older siblings or with an adult…and there are illustrations.

Would it seem totally self-promoting if I brought a bunch of copies for the drive? I don’t want to show up to the backstage meet/greet with a box of my own books and look like a dork. ;)

See you soon and much love,

    Hey Joey,
I think the Let’s Get This foundation is a great idea! I loved to read as a kid :-) I will be bringing a book to the show in Irvine, CA :-) One quick question though. I will buy a new book…But does it have to be a book that was written/published in recent years??? Or can i buy a new copy of a book that i loved as a little kid?

P.S. If you need my email address, i’d be happy to give it to you :-) But i’m not sure i wanna post it here for everyone to find.

    Much love from California <3

I am so excited that you guys are going to be in Cincinnati Ohio on my birthday!
I last saw NKOTB in Louisville Kentucky in 1990.

However, I noticed that you’re a supporter of literacy for children. Maybe you guys could mention that Ohio’s libraries are in big trouble if proposed cuts are made in the state budget.

Thanks for “listening” and can’t wait to see you guys on Saturday!

    Hi there,

My name is Gina Snider, and I am with the Seltzer Elementary PTO in Wichita, KS. I spoke with your wife several times to arrange for the pick-up of some of these donated books. I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was absolutely floored by the opportunity. I counted and sorted the books before taking them to school and counted an AMAZING 909 BOOKS!!! I can’t thank you enough for contacting us! We have a lot of lower income and ESOL students, and we try to collect new/used books for our Kinder class. Our goal every year is to send each of them home with 10 books to call their own, and help them excited about reading. This will be a perfect way to kick that off for the ‘09-’10 school year! I would like to send a proper thank you to you, but I haven’t the slightest idea where to begin getting an address. (If you can, please shoot me an address when you get a chance at davgin3@yahoo.com.) Thanks again! I can’t wait to tell the kids (and parents) about this when school starts in August! You and your fans are THE BEST!!!!
