Thanks for checking in Donnie. As sad as we are about the Today show performance, we are proud that you put the families there first. Thank you to Danny, Joe and Jon for the announcement from them during the Today show this morning. Many of us have pre ordered the CD and will most likely wear out first copy out in a few days.

As dissappointing as it was to miss out on the concert, we completely understand and our thoughts and prayers are those in the Gulf.I do want to peronally thank Joe, Danny and Jon for coming out and spending some great facetime with us! Yes the Hurricane coverage was more important. I honestly could not be sitting there watching you guys with all the excitement, knowing that others were not having a good Labor Day! I will have both CDs. I can’t wait for our time in Oct. This album release has flown by! Hope that this next month does too! Have many safe trips!

We understand and appreciate your concern for those dealing with the hurricane… so no worries about the Today Show being put off for a bit. We’ve still got the new cd and other tv performances to look forward to! I am so excited for the CD to hit stores tomorrow. After I drop my kids off to school I will be hitting Target to get “The Block” and then off to work. My Dvr is set for all of the upcoming NKOTB appearances and I can’t wait. It is so respectful that you postponed the Today show and that you had enough respect for your die hard fans to make a statement to all of us. I can’t wait for October 25th when you come to Auburn Hills, floor seats baby!!! My friend and I are so excited to have lots of “FACETIME”…… I met you many years ago and I still have my autographed photo. I can’t wait for the reunion tour to start. Thank you all so much for coming back together. I always thought this day would come again. Now I am 30 married with two kids and in love with NKOTB all over again. That is fine that the show had to be postponed for a bit, sometimes there are other things that are more important. I am soooo excited for the new cd!!!!!! Hey, Donnie………… I hope all is well with you and yours……and if you have loved ones living near the Gulf, that they evacuated in time. My daughter and I were watching the news this a.m. and she was so worried about her pen pal in Slidell,LA. We called, and thankfully she’s at her aunts in Alabama. It’s a shame something like this happens. Especially so soon after Katrina.

And about the cd…You read my mind!!! I was just sitting here thinking about how late I can be to work tomorrow, so I can go get my copy and listen to it before I go in!!! I cant believe Sept. is finally here!!! Now just lookin toward hearing that cd and Oct. 3rd!!! Face Time!!

Congratulations on your reunion. The newest “Single” is completely addictive and I hav a feeling it’s going to be big.
Hopefully I will be able to get to your concert but I have a special needs child who has to come first.
Here is a review I wrote about your album on Epinions. I wrote from a music writer persepctive and I was completely honest. The album is fantastic and you earned the review. No coasting on my childhood crush going on here! Anyway, the fan is completely excited and the music lover is impressed.

Sometimes there are things in life you wish for but you never dream it might happen. Like having the same body I had before two children, having enough money to do anything I want or being able to quit my job and become a full time writer. Yet, maybe I should fire up the word processor, get some skinny jeans and book a flight to Tuscany because one thing I wanted has definitely happened.
New Kids On The Block is dropping their first album in fifteen years on September 2, 2008. “Blockheads” are the term for these rabid fans who have been waiting twenty years for this event. Am I one of them? I know I felt like Face The Music was by far their best album and that their potential was cut short by over exposure, bad management in the early days and a need for five guys who spent several years in intense spotlight to be something other than a New Kid. I also know that despite being 32 years old, having two kids, a cute husband and a Masters degree I don’t think I’d kick any of these guys out of bed for eating crackers. I definitely have been approaching the new material as objectively as possible. New Kids On The Block are going to have to earn a good review from me; nostalgia, Joey’s blue eyes and Donnie’s sexy voice be damned.
WHO ARE THE NEW KIDS? (Skip if you already know)
New Kids On The Block just might be one of the most quintessential boy bands ever. They released their first album back in 1986 and it never really took off. It seemed this quintet from Boston wasn’t going to be the success they all wished and dreamed about growing up. Then in 1988 that all change when MTV picked up and began playing in heavy rotation their video for “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” The title of this breakout song seemed almost prophetic as the boys began their rocket launch into bonafied stardom and the insanity of being worshipped by millions of young women. Hangin’ Tough, their second album, went eight times platinum and spawned a total of top five hits. They released their third album Step By Step in 1990, launched a tour of epic proportions called the Magic Summer Tour sponsored by Coke and they were blazing hot.
Soon though everything began to change for these five guys from Boston. Grunge, flannel shirts and stringy hair was in and cute teen heart throbs were going out. Guitars, lyrics based on the depth of depression and pain were the traits selling records. The guys released their fourth album Face The Music and it was a commercial disappointment. The sad fact is this album was by far the best they have done. It was steeped in New Jack Swing, nice beats, more sophisticated vocal arrangements and truthfully it’s the only album of their’s I listen to regularly from start to finish. I have always believe their potential was never fully realized. I think future efforts prove this. Jordan Knight’s debut was phenomenal and Joey McIntyre has done some great stuff (8:09 in particular) as well.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK 2008.
The first I heard of a New Kids On The Block reunion was from Speeddemon and while I was excited I definitely wanted to find out more before I got too excited. Was this going to be a real reunion with new material and the guys putting out new music or just them doing a few tour stops and an awards show slice of nostalgia before fading back into the background. Soon it became clear that not only was this going to be a reunion, but it was going to be one of the ages. New songs, a full tour, the website was hopping and when they released “Summertime” back in May it was finally official.
So let’s talk singles.
“Summertime” is a breezy, likable pop jam and our first glimpse at these guys in twenty years. The whole vibe of the song is the guys are reminiscing about the past and it sounds vaguely tropical but also a little like you are at a carnival. The good thing is if this song was able to be a Top 40 hit it bids well for the rest of the album which is considerably more up to date and more in step with what’s going on in music. Joey handles a good portion of the vocals with Donnie following up. Then we have Jordan on the bridge as it breaks down into some harmony. I was hoping for a song with more R&B inclinations but I wasn‘t going to complain. The thing that touches me about this song is my six year old daughter loves it. I mean LOVES it. She asks me to play it all the time and to my husbands chagrin we played it at least five times in a row on our way up to Estes Park a month or so ago. There is something so full circle about looking at my little girl and seeing her take to something I loved so much so long ago. She thinks Jordan’s the cutest (while I was a Joey fan) but overall it means a lot to me. The only damper on the whole thing is when she asked me if they were still alive.
“Single” is exactly what I wanted. Teaming up with Ne-Yo was savvy, inspired and totally makes sense. I have been playing this song constantly on my MP3 player since it dropped on Rhapsody on 8/12/2008. Joey McIntyre and Ne-Yo trade off on the verses, Donnie takes the bridge and Jordan and Ne-Yo go back and forth on the chorus. It’s a wonderful hybrid of the “boy band” sound with R&B. “Everybody in the club right now, tell the DJ to turn it loud” Donnie urges with a very low, very nice voice and the whole song is sexy for start to finish.
AUGUST 27th
Several other songs have now finally made their way onto YouTube and for the most part they are the highly anticipated collaborations. If there was one other band that signifies the eighties and my childhood as much as New Kids On The Block it would be the other boy band of the eighties New Edition. Both of these groups were discovered by pimp in sheep’s clothing Maurice Starr and both hail from Boston. While their success has been a little more consistent and their contributions more diverse (one of the members discovered Boyz II Men), they have struggled to recapture the same level of success they have had in the past despite the fact they are very talented. So this is a pairing that makes sense on every level. “Full Service” is a smorgasbord of sex appeal with all of these guys offering to take care of their lady. Who could ask for more? The music has some hot production by RedOne with a thumping beat, a heavy dose of undulating synthesizers, some vocoder effects and a very catchy hook on the chorus. Jordan and Joey take verse one, the guys collaborate on the chorus and then Ralph and Johnny take the second verse. Could life get any better? The fact is if this song isn’t a hit I will be shocked. It has hit written all over it. We are talking calligraphy people. Speaking of hit potential let’s talk about “Put It On My Tab” which features Akon. I love this song as well. It’s perfect for going out to the club, getting your groove on and having a good time. Donnie takes the lead and I love the way it sounds and he gives it this mellow, sexy come-on vibe the song deserves. While I’m a huge Joey fan Donnie gives these songs the vibe they need.
August 28th
When I got on this morning I was excited that the rest of the album is now on YouTube. It’s almost like Christmas. Finally, the full New Kids version of “Click Click Click” is online and it fulfills all the promise of the snippets we heard from the very beginning of this massive boy band resurrection. This was the beat that was on the website as a teaser until they got things running and really raised my expectations that they were going in the R&B direction I wanted them to go into. This song was written by a guy named Nasri and the song that inspired the guys to finally do this. Thank you Nasri. The song is awesome as the cool, yet undeniably hot beat throbs in the background and the guys let their harmonies slide over you like silk sheets. Donnie raps and does a great job as far as I’m concerned. This is a highlight among highlights.
“Two In the Morning” is probably more in line with “Summertime” as its based in a pop friendly arrangement with a slightly Asian flavored synthesized riff. It’s a song about getting into a lover’s spat and about how its drawing out until late in the morning. Joey is the perfect guy to sing a line like “I’ve been laying up all night just waiting for your kiss goodnight, even if you’re mad at me we shouldn’t go to bed angry.” I have heard this song three times and I already love it! “Twisted” is a very innovative production and this song bubbles with their voices against some strings before kicking into this sticky sweet, bubble gum delicious, techno flavored explosion of sound. It’s pop at its absolute best. This wouldn’t be a radio song because it doesn’t have an identifiable hook but it sounds very cool and artistic. Produced by Timbaland, he once again works his magic.
AUGUST 29th
Let’s talk about a couple of other collaborations with some ladies on this album. The guys team up with The Pussycat Dolls for “Grown Man”. This one wasn’t the instant love some of the other collaborations are but I can officially say I am getting into this song now. It’s very raunchy and gritty for the New Kids and this is definitely a song Donnie pulls off. It opens with the opening riff to the classic Aretha tune “Chain of Fools” and at one point Scherzinger high-jacks the bridge to the song. This is the part I wasn’t keen on. Putting that aside the rest of the song is perfect for strutting your stuff in the club or possibly in private for that special someone. The collaboration with Lady Gaga is even better as the song has a great beat. I have no idea who Lady GaGa is but she sounds a little bit like Christina Aguilera. The chorus is fun and summery.
There are a couple of sex jams on this one and these type of songs could have gone either way. They could have sounded like middle aged men desperate to be relevant or it could have sounded like grown men confident with their sex appeal. Thankfully songs like “Sexify My Love” (I was really worried about that R.Kelly-esque title) and “Lights, Camera, Action” come off like the second option and they sound sexy and ready to go. (Yeah, I mean that like it sounded). I still think “Sexify My Love” is a questionable title but they make it work. They are tasteful but naughty with a wink and a smile. Maybe a slight nudge as well. This is more of a Jordan Knight, wave your freak flag sexy verses the thug light sexy that Donnie has going on. “Dirty Dancing” is another production from RedOne and its likable. Not spectacular but better than filler.
September 1st
Well the big day is tomorrow and I am battling with myself on whether I am going to post tomorrow or go ahead and post this tonight. The fact is the album is very well done. I’m ecstatic they are coming back but more importantly they are coming back strong. This isn’t some album slapped together to make a quick buck. They seemed to pick the best songs for them and picked collaborators that can bring their sound to theirs and make something new and fresh. There are going to be two versions of this CD. The Block is the regular version and will have a generous thirteen songs. Out of these thirteen tracks, I would say eleven are songs I have been listening to pretty constantly since the leak on YouTube. I haven’t bought a physical album in at least a year but this one is causing an after gym run to Target tomorrow. I really hope everyone gives this a chance because they easily, seemingly effortlessly have made a bunch of songs that can easily keep up with young pups like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.
There is really only one true ballad on the album and that is the beautiful, soulful “Stare At You”. Jordan handles a lot of the lead vocals on this one and it’s a sweet song about being in love. It ends with a snippet of Donnie’s son displaying his knowledge of his dad’s group and it’s a cute end to the album.
Overall, I am thrilled with this new album. It has all the things I knew they were capable of doing. They have proven they can be a viable, strong force on the music scene. Whether they will be able to expand from their fan base is probably the biggest question. While they most certainly deserve to this doesn’t mean they will. I have faith though that if people hear “Single” on the radio it’s going to catch on. Until then this “blockhead” will have it on her MP3 player and in her car. Hopefully, you all will be doing the same.

I need to say something about this album. It is the hottest yet, and because of this and your attitudes, I am glad to call myself a fan!!! That’s why I stuck with you guys since 1985!!! Even though I was only 5 back then, I knew you guys had something special. Your music kept me out of trouble, kept me grounded, and helped me through thoughts of suicide…..if it weren’t for you guys, I would have ended it long ago. Kids can be so cruel, your music made me realize that I should be happy in my own skin and not care what others think. It is because of YOU, that I am here today, your music helped me through!! You guys prove time and again what consummate professionals you are, truly a class act. But you are also compassionate, down to earth real people, as well. The way you all handled the postponment of the Today Show today showed to anyone who had doubts (but who would doubt you??) just what kind of people the New Kids On The Block are.
My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with the people in the gulf coast, and anyone who has family there as well.

No worries about the Today Show. We all understand that sometimes there are more improtant things than what we want & my prayers are with all those in the affected areas. I was touched by what Danny(I love You!!) had to say to those in the Gulf Coast Region. When Danny, Joe & Jonathan went out to meet the fans, I thought that was so sweet. Hota Kotb even commented in the last hour of the show how she thought it was sweet of them to do that & now liked NKOTB more. You are all amazing men!! I have heard stories from the autograph signing in Burbank & everything I have heard is just awesome!!! So Much love to all of you!!

Donnie- We all understand that sometimes life happens even when you don’t expect it. Many of us have family and friends in the Gulf Region so it is great to see that you all care so much for so many people.
Now, on to the task at hand waiting until midnight and I can get my downloads from Itunes. Then, watching The View in the morning, going to Starbucks for a coffee then on to purchase my hard copies of the albums.
I am so excited about this next week…it is getting me even more pumped up for the 4 shows I’m going too!! I know that 11/10 can’t get here soon enough for Mindy and I, we are so ready for our FACE TIME!! I of course will be trying to fit in any extra FACE TIME before that show at the 2 Chicago and the Milwaukee show.
I have waited 20 yrs for this….And it is SO WORTH IT!

I think its funny, you seemed to be the one of the group most leary of getting back together, and yet you seem to be the most excited. We completely agree, there are things more important than our wants. The people in line with the hurricane need status updates more than anything. We honestly care about those people and one member of our group understands what its like to go though one. She was right in line with Fay and now Hannah is heading toward her state. Seems like the people down there can’t catch a break sometimes. We hope and pray that everyone makes it through this disaster safely.
We can’t wait to get that CD in our hands and blast it out our windows.

You guys are always doing things to make the fans love you even more. After hearing about you guys visiting the fans and the argument with security & the fans, I was literally crying. I was crying not because the show was canceled but that every one of the fans were on the same page. They all knew you guys wouldn’t just leave them out there like that. This reunion has been AMAZING so far. Thank you.
You guys have always taught us to think of those less fortunate. Some fans on nkotbfans.com have started donating money to Red Cross in honor of nkotbfans.com. THANK YOU for raising me right, Donnie. That was something I wanted to say to you on Thursday but couldn’t find the courage to.

We totally understand about the Today show… some things are just out of anyone’s control, right? The fact that a couple of you guys were able to go over and talk to the girls in line… Wow! you guys are really class acts. I can’t think of another artist who would have done that for their fans. Amazing!
I am getting The Block at midnight tonight (maybe 11:30 if itunes is feeling friendly!) And I can not wait!! The album is amazing and I think it’s your best yet. Everytime I listen to it, I hear something new. I probably need to stop dancing and just sit and listen a couple times! I know you guys worked really hard on it and I couldn’t be more proud of you.
Can’t wait to see you on some of the other appearances… Oh, and let’s not forget you’ve got a pretty big movie opening soon! I will be there opening night!

Well, first of all, I miss you sooo much that I can not even begin to find the words.
Second, I’m sure that everyone understands why the show had to be postponed. It was what was best for the time being.
Third, I will be getting my Deluxe edition delivered by UPS TOMORROW and then me and Sara are going to Best Buy in Burbank to pick up the CD that we pre-ordered on Thursday. We will be listening to the deluxe version the WHOLE way there!!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!!
As I said, I miss you something awful but I know we’ll see each other soon. You hang in there & have a great time! But can you do me a favor?? Please take care of yourself. I worry about you.

Donnie ~ Babe, thanks for the post. We always love getting posts from you and the other guys. Of course we were all so sad that we couldnt watch you today. But we do understand. And we still love you all no matter what. Our prayers are with everyone going through all this mess. We hope you guys will be doing a show like very soon! I felt so bad for all the ladies that stood in line, camping out for you guys. They are some loyal loving fans. See what we do for you guys? See what you make us do? We would stand in a blizzard for a week straight just to meet you guys lol. I know I would lol.
Anyway, about the new Album. We are so stoked!!! We are so ready for it and wont sleep a bit tonight lol. I will be getting mine as early as I can! I am buying both of them and also buying it off Itunes to have on my Ipod. This will be the best music ever! You guys rock, you have made all of our dreams come true! Thank you for coming back into my life and making it just prefect!!
I have to say this Donnie …. I have been dealing with Cancer for the past year. It is Melanoma that was found in my chest after a mole was removed. 7 months after that, it spread to my neck. Now on Wed. I found out that the Cancer spread to my brain. The doctors are telling me I have less then 5 years to live. I have 3 kids ages 15, 5 and 3. Im married to a wonderful man and Im 36 years old. Of course, I am going to search for 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions and options from Different hospitals. The Cancer Treatment Center of America doesnt accept my insurance because it is from the state so thats out. Its a long story so I wont get into it here but if you want to email me, Id be glad to tell you everything in better detail. I will be fighting for my life and searching high and low for help. I have a connection to a hospital in NY called Sloane Kettering I think.
This is what Im wondering Donnie. I have loved you guys for 23 years. You guys have changed so many lives. You broke our hearts when you guys broke up but now your back in our lives and it is the best feeling ever. Im so happy that you came back in my life. This Nov. will be my very first NKOTB concert ever. I was never allowed to go as a child. So now I get to go after 23 years and I find out the Cancer spread to my brain! Wtf? I want to meet you guys at least once . That is my deathbed wish! I already told my husband that I want that in my will. I just want to meet you all at least once, get a picture or two, give you each a kiss and hug and be able to say thank you for coming into my life and making me so happy with your entertainment. Thank you for coming back into my life after 19 years andmaking me feel like a young girl again. You have brought back so many memories and so many feelings. I love you guys. I want to be able to look into your eyes and say all of this not just say it in a letter or email. So I want to know, who do I call, write, beg to arrange this to happen for me? I know way back in the day,a girl was in a wheelchair, crippled and all until you came and gave her a hug and then she jumped up out of the chair lol. But it would be sick to lie about Cancer ya know?
Please Donnie, before I die, whenever that will be, less then 5 years or more then 5 years … I want to be able to meet you all for 5 mins at least. I see ladies who say they follow you around the world, they have hundreds of pics, met you all like a dozen times. Just once would last me a lifetime. So can you please, have a heart, email me and let me know what to do or who to call to try to meet you guys??? Thank you so much for your time and patience! You guys are awesome and I love you!! And by the way, I saw your video on life insurance. Thanks to you and your video, I will be calling them in the morning. Its a no brainer!!

I will miss seeing you on the Today Show, but I agree that there are some things that are just more important. I can’t imagine going through what the people of gulf coast are going through.
I just finished listening to the whole album… I have to say this has to be the best stuff yet! It’s hard to pick a favorite song! You guys out did yourselves on this one.
