New Kids On The Block

For once, all the rumors are actually true.

“The Right Stuff” really is — at long last — returning to your block. Thankfully, this time, it’s all happening in the right way too.

New Kids On The Block — five now fully-grown men who forever defined what the modern boy band would look and sound like — are back together for the very first time in nearly a decade and a half, and currently hard at work on their first new album since 1994. That still untitled album should be released sometime this summer, preceded by the New Kid’s first new single since the Nineties, and followed in the fall by an already hotly anticipated international concert tour.

On a March afternoon, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood are gathered together, hanging tough all over again in a small Los Angeles studio looking a little older, but still youthful, fit and anxious to not simply celebrate their musical legacy, but also add something new and personally meaningful to it. In the late Eighties and early Nineties, while still teenagers themselves, New Kids on the Block became a phenomenon, selling over 70 million albums – including the back-to-back international number one efforts, 1988’s Hangin’ Tough and 1990’s Step By Step — and a series of crossover smash R&B, pop hits like “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “Cover Girl,” “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time),” “Hangin’ Tough,” “I’ll Be Loving You,” “Step By Step” and “Tonight” — as well as countless number of concert tickets, t-shirts and even lunchboxes to primarily female kids around the world. Then under the guidance of producer Maurice Starr who had previously brought the world New Edition, the New Kids made a tremendous impact on the culture very quickly.

“I think history has looked upon us fondly,” say McIntyre. “I wouldn’t say we were important, but people do now see our place in pop history. We’ve read that we `begat the boy bands” like Backstreet Boys and N’Sync. And in a way, those groups have all made us more contemporary. They made us younger in a way by putting us in their generation. But hey, what about New Edition? There would be no New Kids without them. And of course, the Jackson Five begat New Edition. So I guess we were really just the first white boy band.”

These days, four of the five Kids have kids themselves, as well as assorted careers and lives of their own, and so their decision to reunite had been an adult if joyful one that they’ve taken very seriously. That’s why this time around – even with the assistance of a great new team including Interscope Records and the Azoff Management team, it’s the original Kids themselves who have taken charge of their own destiny with new music that they found and funded themselves.

“We’re not kids, we’re just the guys now,” Donnie Wahlberg says with a smile as he takes a break from the recording sessions that started this past winter and have taken on a momentum of its own this spring. Long the hold out from any sort of New Kids On The Block reunion, Wahlberg – who has enjoyed considerable success as a constantly working actor in the intervening years – has long made it clear that he had absolutely no interest in simply cashing in on the Kid’s good name. “We’ve had so many offers from so many people over the years, but I’ve always protected the asset,” he says. “We never sold the New Kids house to anyone. And until we got together in a recording studio in Orlando two months ago, I haven’t even been in the same room with these five guys for fifteen years.”

And this time, it’s the boys – make that, the men – in the group who are in charge.

“We took the initiative instead of going out and asking for help from a label or anyone,” McIntyre explains. “We just started recording because we wanted to and because we were ready. We started doing this from the ground up –just us.”

The brand new New Kids album was really sparked when Wahlberg was in New York for a costume fitting for the upcoming film Righteous Kill that finds him living out another life-long dream by acting in a film alongside two of his greatest heroes, Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino as well as 50 Cent. Finding himself around the block, Wahlberg visited the office of his longtime music lawyer who handed him a demo tape of a young singer-songwriter name Nazeree. Since the days of New Kids — and his time producing hits in the early Nineties for his brother Mark as Markey Mark and The Funky Bunch – Wahlberg has been handed a mountain of demos in his time and he took the offering with absolutely no expectations.

Putting the CD on while driving a few days later, Wahlberg heard two songs that spoke to him powerfully. “I got in the car in Boston on my birthday and I popped it in,” he recalls. “ The first song was called `Click, Click, Click’ and from the minute it started, it just grabbed me. I kept waiting for this kid to falter, but he never did. Not only that – I immediately recognized that Joey McIntryre is going to love this record, Jordan Knight is going to love this record and I love this record. The music speaks to all of our sensibilities, but they’re all totally different. It was hip-hop and honest enough for me. It was soulful enough for Jordan and pop and unselfish enough for Joe. It just had it all. I spent the next few hours driving up to girls at red lights and playing them the song. They said, `Is that your song? I said `Not yet.’”

After years of blocking any reunion, Wahlberg was suddenly energized and drove to Jordan Knight’s house that night and played him the songs, “I told him. `Jordan, this could be the moment right here.’ Jordan heard `Click, Click, Click’ and he loved it. Then I emailed them to Joe and the same reaction — and more importantly his wife cried. So I pulled out my checkbook and we started going.”

What had started was more like a mission than a comeback.

“See what I discovered is that the self-respect I have as an actor was hard to have in music,” Wahlberg explains. “Parts of what we went through were kind of prefabricated – though the whole New Kids machine only started once we got the ball rolling. It was grass roots before that. Maurice Starr was the guy behind our success, but we were in it from day one. So over the years, I’ve often thought I’d like to experience the group with that feeling of self-respect — instead of just the fame and hysteria, so it’s not about just getting something back, but about really doing something.”

In the months that followed, Wahlberg and the other Kids would collaborate closely with Nazaree, who turned out to be a New Kids fan since childhood, as well as other gifted producers and writers including Bryan-Michael Cox, Emanuel Kiriakou, RedOne and Fernando on an new album that blends the melodic soul of vintage New Kids with a decidedly contemporary, hip hop feel.

“Donnie was right,” McIntyre explains. “The new music we’re making reignited this whole thing so it’s not just cashing in on pure nostalgia for the old days.”

Of the group’s demise back in the mid-Nineties, McIntyre explains, “We were just fried. What happened to us in the span of a couple years was mind-blowing, and no one really knew what it was. We were learning as it went. A lot of groups today know the mold and plan accordingly. We didn’t start out with the idea that in two years we’d be playing stadiums. So by the end of our touring obligations in like 1992, we just want to go home. We had moved on and then music had totally moved on. Grunge happened. Rock and roll came back. We never slammed the door shut – we just sort of walked away. And at that point, we weren’t exactly going to hold a press conference because no one really cared.”

“It’s the thing about being in a boy band,” Wahlberg says. “In some ways we were much more in control than people could ever imagine back then. But in some ways, you can’t control anything.”

In the studio today, all five seem to be getting along and contributing something to the whole.

“I think the thing with us is that we always hung onto the fact that we were buddies first,” Joey McIntyre explains. “This wasn’t a cattle call or a reality show. The point is this wasn’t a business first. It’s wasn’t even a business second. This was a business last. And in the end, we stayed friends and didn’t judge each other two much, which could get frustrating. But the pay off for that is that almost 20 years later, we can get together, hang out and have fun. It’s different now, it’s a little more planned out and professional, but we’re still a bunch of guys who love doing this and want every show to be our best.”

Now that the five Kids are standing together and planning to hit the road with a new show, simply reviving the old hits isn’t enough. “No, I want this to be redemption — but not for us,” Wahlberg explains. “I want it to be redemption for the fans. I want them to feel entertained, to feel treated to something special. And I want them to be so satisfied by what they get that they’ll realize they weren’t crazy all those years ago — that they put their heart into the right place back then and that it was worth the wait to come back again.”

Make no mistake; the New Kids intend to play all the familiar hits – along with some brand new ones too. “Our old songs aren’t necessarily standards — they were pretty sweet — but it’s going to be fun in a live show. People come to hear that music, so we’re going to sing it with basically the same sound. We’re not doing a reggae version of our three biggest hits because when I see that, it pisses me off. Even I’m like `Spare me.’ We have something like ten top ten hits, which is amazing. So if we do those and five new songs, we’ll have a hell of a show. We will give the people what they want to hear.

So what will a New Kids On The Block concert look like in 2008?

“ We’re still young, we’re still hot,” McIntryre answers with a laugh. “Our fans are between 25 and 35 now because they were really young then. They’re still very attractive — and very legal. So it’s going to be a girls night out. I know my wife’s going to be there every step of the way, but it’s still going to be fun.”

Yes, the wait has been a long one, but it won’t be much longer now.

“The snowball is getting pretty big,” McIntrye adds as he and his four old friends get back to work. “And it’s heading down the mountain now.”

Jordan, Jon, Joey, Donnie, and Danny… Welcome back! I am so completely thrilled that you have all decided to do this. I feel like a 13-year-old girl again waiting for the big concert with butterflies and cheeks that hurt because I cannot stop smiling. You are all so talented; I know that when your new album comes out, it is going to be amazing. I can’t wait! I will be first in line to buy it because I know without a doubt… with all of you collaborating and calling the shots, it will be a knockout. I may not have your pictures plastered on my walls anymore, but I am a forever fan. I still find myself humming “Funky Christmas” at Christmas time or “Please, Don’t Go Girl” for no reason at all! For days now, “Hangin’ Tough” has been on the brain! I think it is great that you will be singing all of those hits again too because even though we have all moved on in our lives, gotten married and had children, those songs represent something to all of us… our childhood dreams or that first kiss. They represent something special that became part of who we are today. Thank you for that. Thank you for coming back together again and for remembering us, your fans. Because one thing is certain… we have never forgotten you!
    ~ Janine :)

“And I want them to be so satisfied by what they get that they’ll realize they weren’t crazy all those years ago — that they put their heart into the right place back then and that it was worth the wait to come back again.”

I’m not sure how accurate this quote is, but it’s great to read! It was nice being an 8-year-old with extreme NKOTB Hysteria, but the truth is, although I had a massive crush on Donnie, I didn’t get a whole lot of out the music. Don’t get me wrong - I loved the songs - but when a fellow fan asked me, “how did the New Kids impact your life?”, I didn’t have much to say. Basically, I thought Donnie was cute, so I listened to their music.

I love the old favourites. The songs are light and fun, and I’ve been listening to them since I was 5, because it’s nice music and brings wonderful memories. I’m 25 now, and that kind of fanaticism has pretty much gone by the wayside. I’m looking forward to new music that will be meaningful for who I am today, and truly leave a lasting impact. It would be the best to see the New Kids woven into history as a band who made it twice, because they did it the proper and noble way.

It would be wonderful to see the New Kids woven into history as a band who made it twice, because they did it the proper and noble way.

  59. Brandi Benson Says:

Thank YOU SOOOOOO MUCH for sharing this story with us. All those years of being a NK nostaligia fan on the web, chatting and exchanging pix and stories with other diehards from all over the world kept us going even though you guys were disbanded. We all hoped and even prayed for this day to come–never really believing it would happend ’cause you guys were so convincing about the “never.”
Donnie’s quote had me in tears. It’s about “redemption” for the fans. Thank you! I know I was and still am crazy for the NKOTB and your music. My heart never strayed! Thank you for coming back!!!! YOU guys won’t regret it!

  62. Francesca Says:

OMG!!! I have heard the rumors and have been keeping an eye out for more information. To hear it is finally true is wonderful. I am so glad NKOTB is getting back together. I saw both concerts in St. Louis back in the day and still have the concert T-Shirt. My 12 year old daughters wears it now…lol. Both my 12 year old and my 7 year old know their music as I still keep their CD in my car and listen to it regularly. I played the old cassette until it wore out and got it on CD as soon as it was available. I am now 34 years old and can’t wait to see them again!!! Way to go NKOTB!!!!!

  74. Jessica Says:

For years I’ve said that if the New Kids ever come back for a reunion tour that I will be there. And I will! I forgot how wonderful it is to feel so excited in the deepest part of my heart. Thank you guys for coming back and showing us why we all fell in love with your music those years ago.

  75. Bea Says:

I have waited since I was 18 years old for this day to come!
My friends and I heard the rumors and have been waiting with our fingers crossed! You better believe it will be a “Girls’ Night Out”! This time around we have real jobs, not babysitting money, so we will travel wherever we have to for a seat! :)

Congrats, guys! If you’re 1/2 half as good now as when you walked away 15 years ago, you’ll “reinvent” the boy band!! AND…I am hoping to start a whole new generation of fans when I bring my 9-year daughters and her friends, too! Welcome Back!

  76. Manda Says:

I can not wait guys! Just saw you on Today and it was like I was 12 all over again, lol … Much luck for the best success with the new album!

  80. Janine Fraser Says:

    ~ Janine
PS you were awesome on today!

  81. Jaycie Says:

  84. Sarah Says:

I could not be more excited about this news. I woke up earlier than usual to watch the Today show just to make sure it was true, and to see it directly from you guys. There are a bunch of people who are more than excited to see you guys on tour. I’m excited for you guys to prove all the haters wrong, there are far more positives than negatives and it will just continue to get better. Good luck guys!!

  85. Priscilla Says:

I think this is amazing and all of you look great! Thanks for coming back and being devoted! I know you’ll be an inspiration to many!

  86. Andrea Peterson Says:

It’s hard to believe that the New Kids are back. I have such amazing memories of attending concerts, buying magazines and plastering my walls with all the posters I could find. To say that I’m happy would be an understatement. I’ve always followed each of the guys and their post New Kids endeavers and now the thought of getting to see them again…together again…is AWESOME! I can’t wait. I may be 30, but I’m still a Block Head…tride and true! Long live New Kids…I can’t wait!

  87. mandi Says:

I can not explain how exciting this is! It has been a long wait but im sure it will be absolutly worth it! I just hope you bring the show to Australia!

  88. Katie J. Says:

I am so glad you guys are back together!! Congrats on all the success you had in previous years, and for the years to come. I can’t wait to hear the new stuff and where you’ll be touring.

    A True Fan,
    Jackie

  90. Leah Says:

I just watched you guys on the Today show. OMG! I felt like I was 12 again! I saw all the buttons and shirts, and then you guys came out from behind that curtain. I was like a giddy little girl again. You guys will be back on the Today show again on May 19th for your first concert..WOW!! That struck a cord with me, because my dad’s b-day is May 21. He took me to see you guys as a b-day present all those years ago. I remember seeing Donnie waving to my side of the stage and telling my dad, “OMG Donnie just waved at me!!” Now, my dad is in the advanced stages of prostate cancer. He started chemo a couple weeks ago. His oncologist has given him 9 months to one year to live. My sisters and I shaved him bald so it wouldn’t be such a shock to him when his hair starts falling out. If he’s feeling up to it and wants to, maybe I’ll see if we can come see you guys in NYC. That would be amazing. He, one of my girlfriends, and I went to NYC for my 25th b-day, because I had always wanted to see the Macy’s parade in person. Maybe he’ll be up for this…not just for me or his birthday..but for another priceless memory. I love you guys. You have been such a staple to so many people’s lives..their history. I am so excited to see what is to come for you all.

  91. Melanie R Says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That’s all I can say. I am really looking forward to seeing you ALL in concert again. When I hear your old songs “I’ll be Loving You”, “Please Don’t Go Girl”, “Hangin Tough”…and on and on and on…I get such a nostalgic feeling. I can’t wait to see you all LIVE in Philly. I know my heart will pitter patter just as it did when I was 13 years old hanging over the railing at the Spectrum! What a great experience it will be…all over again!

  92. Tammy Says:

I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! Thank you so much. I have loved new kids since I was 10!!!!! I feel like a kid again, I wonder if my husband would mind if I hang up some posters on our bedroom walls :)

  93. SWalk Says:

OMG OMG OMG! How is it possible that 20 years later I’m suddenly feeling the same teenage excitement?! I’ve still got the old tapes (egad, tapes!!) and videos stuck in storage, a closeted NKOTB fan. I’m psyched to revist the past and ready to get in on the redemption! We’ve taken a lot of abuse as fans… kiss a** for us guys!

P.S. I love J.M.’s quote about the fans “and very legal” — ah, the memories!

Doesn’t all of this just make you smile?

  94. Leslea Says:

OMG! Please come to Michigan! We love you guys!

  95. Kristin Says:

I can’t wait! Yes, we’re all a little older, and certainly wiser now - but the spirit of what these guys have to offer is obviously still there. My boss and I were sitting in our office yesterday singing a few of our favorite NKOTB hits! After all of these years, they’re still not forgotten. We’re stoked. :)

  96. Melissa Bolin Says:

All I know is…. 40 never looked SO good!

Happy to see you all back. I can’t WAIT for the concert! Can I bring my old NKOTB Barbie dolls? Lol

    Sincerely,
    Melissa

  97. Joseph, Grand Rapids, MI Says:

Welcome back guys!!! When I listen to the old stuff it makes me smile. I enjoyed most of your music back then, and I am sure I will enjoy the new stuff today. Both my wife, and I are very excited to hear your new stuff. After reading your post here I am grateful that you guys are taking the time to create and seriously present music that will come from the heart. I have to tell you watching you guys on the Today show this morning made me remember how much I love music. There is so much nonsense out there in the main stream music industry, and I realize that sells records, but I have a gut feeling that this new record will be music that will finially define NKOTB. Thanks for staying true to yourselves and I can’t wait to buy the new record! Welcome Back!!!

  98. Jessica Says:

I am so excited that NKOTB is reuniting! I think the last time I went to your concert, I was 6 and my sister was 10. Now at 23 and 27, we are very excited to go and see a more mature NKOTB, with hopefully, some of the old stuff!!

I really hope you tour in Canada and specifically in Winnipeg!!

  99. Kelly Says:

thank you thank you thank you, can’t wait for the tour stop in South Florida ;)… love you guys! You looked great today on the Today Show!

  100. Donielle Says:

OMG! I am so excited. When I was young and you guys came to Struthers field house I didnt get to see you and I cried all night! You better believe I am coming out to see you now!!!

  101. Nina Ismail Says:

Ohhh my gosh…i almost have tears in my eyes….

Reading that was just……..ahhh…. it’s absoloutely amazing to know the guys actually want to do this for themselves and most importantly for US… and they know we still love them despite the huge gap of them being away…..

NKOTB were big then now they’re gonna be BIGGER…!!!

  102. NIKKI Says:

We, your fans, are soo happy you are coming back.
You guys look great and we are sure you will still sound great.

Can’t wait to hear the new album!!

    We love you guys!! :)

  103. Barb Says:

WOW…that was a great introduction for what is to come. Now I really hope you guys head this way (Sydney, Nova Scotia) so that your fans here (Atlantic Canada) get to experience this too. Cheers, and welcome back! - Continued fan since 1985.

  104. Jennifer Seymour Says:

I just wanted to say that i’ve followed you guys since I was about 10 years old. I’m now 31 years old and I’m gonna be following you guys again until you deside that you’ve had enough. Now, back in the day my pillows had all of your faces on them, this time around i’m probably not gonna be that crazy. I don’t think my husband would enjoy that(lol). But I’ll be waitting to hear that you’ll be touring in our area. Best of luck in your endeavers.

  105. Nicole D Says:

I have a ton of great memories from the 80’s and 90’s. But what I am looking forward to the most is the new album. Sure the old sings are classic but looking ahead to what is to come is so exciting! Good luck guys! And go Celtics!

  106. Therese Strömberg Says:

I love the NKOTB even though I did not grew up with their music. When these “boys” were taking over the world with their music I was playing with my Barbie dolls. And when they quit in 1994 I had not yet discovered any other music than my parents music.
With the arrival of my birthday in 1995 I received a CD player. Now I started to realize that the world of music was so much more than old music from the early 80´s and late 70´s. The Backstreet boys became my new music…
But on the same time I started to discover this amazing band.
And I have even to this day been a fan of the NKOTB, even though the arrival of both my teens, and ofcourse the arrival of dogs into the family who used my cds as their chewtoys, the band were still a large part of my life.
I am so happy for their comeback and Im dreaming of being able to meet them one day!

  107. Nieyda Says:

iam so happy and delighted to hear that NKOTB is ‘coming’ back. Ive been your fans since i was young. Surely i’m looking forward for u guys’ album. way the go boy!or shall i say MEN..Welcome Back!!

  108. I’ll Be Loving You Forever « 3inunder3 Says:

[…] more info about them, go here. This is a stat that will make you feel old. Hangin’ Tough was released 20 years ago, but […]

  109. Claudia Lueck Says:

Guys, your comeback was the best news so far! Please stop by in Cologne, Germany when you’re on tour. You know, the German fans won’t dissapoint you!

Hope to see you soon - live in concert, looking great as always!

    Best,
    Claudia

  110. Jenn Says:

I just can’t seem to find the words to explain in full how I am feeling about this reunion. I am very excited, mostly to hear the new music, I am a little melancholy for some reason as jumping into this adventure pulls attention to the fact that my youth is gone and missed. I await the first bar of that first song of the concert, for that moment I will feel like I am 16 years old again and every adult worry will melt away, even if just for a few hours.

I saw Jordan in concert a few years ago and I was blown away but the emotion that surfaced when he stepped out on stage. Such a freedom, everything melted away. A short lived fountain of youth I guess, it was a fantastic night. I can’t imagine the magic with all 5 of them together…can’t wait guys and thank you.

PS Please hit Vancouver Canada…I just can’t miss this.

  111. joyce snijders Says:

    here’s a message from a girl in Holland;

YESSSSSSSSS!!!! I’m sooooooooo happy you guys are back!!! Really hope you will tour the Netherlands!
When you guys came the first time to the Netherlands I couldn’t go to your concert, ’cause my mom thought I was too young (I was 11 or something :D), but, like you guys, all grown up (29, next monday)I can decide for myself if I will go, and yes! If you guys come to Holland I will be there!

Love you guys, it’s great to have you back!!

Lot’s of love, Joyce, The Netherlands. XOXOX

  112. Keshe Says:

I absolutely CANNOT WAIT. Please come to Michigan. Or Chicago! Or both!!

  113. Rachel Says:

“Our fans are between 25 and 35 now because they were really young then. They’re still very attractive — and very legal. So it’s going to be a girls night out. I know my wife’s going to be there every step of the way, but it’s still going to be fun.”

TOO Funny and VERY true! I’m stoked!

  114. Lisa Says:

I am so psyched for you guys right now this is awesome. I loved you guys as a child and now at 29 love you guys as adults. I have bought the albums in between that Jordan and Joe have put out and I have seen all of Donnie’s movies (personally Annapolis is my favorite). Can’t wait to see you guys when you come to upstate New York!

  115. Stepahanie Says:

I’m so excited I can’t even explain it. I’m 28, I’ll be 29 in October and have been a fan since I was 9. I truly never thought this would happen. I was on youtube a few months ago and looked you up just to see what there was. I was amazed to see how many people felt the same way I did. I didn’t get to see you in concert when I was a kid, so I’m can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am now to finally have a chance to see you live. Oh yeah and pleas come to Illinois, Peoria or Chicago….:)
    See you soon.
    Love ya,
    Stephanie

  118. Erin Spina Says:

I’m so excited to see you guys back together!! You have all been a very instrumental part of my growing up years, and for that..I thank you for your music. I still have all of my NKOTB memorabilia up in the attic…time to take it back out!

  127. Roob Says:

OMG! I have not been this excited about anything, since I was 12 years old watching, doing, talking, and listening to everything NKOTB…I still have my Jordan doll! =) Good Times, Great memories, great music, my husband is a huge Donnie fan and he found out through me about the old NKOTB days !!! 129. January Ferrell Says:

I love hearing that the five of you are back together again! My daughter, who is the same age I was when I got my first New Kids album, came to me not too long ago to tell me about this really cool new band that she had heard about. When she told me it was the New Kids I couldn’t help but smile and then grab my box that had everything from posters to the fedora. I think she was a little more than surprised. We are both looking forward to the new tour. Good luck guys and welcome back. I know you will sound as wonderful now as you did then.

  130. Ashlee Says:

I CAN’T WAIT….LOVE THIS! GOOD LUCK GUYS…BRING SOME OLD SCHOOL BACK TO THE GAME…..

  131. Kimberly Says:

I am so thrilled! I can’t wait. I will be first in line to buy a ticket.

  132. Maggie Says:

    Welcome back.

This is beautifully written, and I’m glad to see it here. When I first heard you were reuniting I was cynical about the rationale behind this project, though I hoped it was about the music and your affection for one another. Thank you for supporting my faith, and thank you for returning when so many people I grew up with need to have the escape and the fantasy return, if only for a little while.

I wish you the very best as you pursue your new adventure.

  133. Brenna Dougan Says:

:) OH HAPPY DAY there getting back together …. the boys from beantown better come to canada

  134. Lauren Says:

CRAZY!! I can’t believe you guys are coming back. All of my friends and I are so excited! I was in elementary school and early middle school when I was head-over-heels for you guys. Now, I’m a high school teacher and I still screamed on the phone when my then “NKOTB concert buddy” called me and told me the news. I sure hope you guys come through Texas, but if you don’t, rest assured that I’ll fly to see the boy band that ruled my heart so many years ago. Congratulations, guys and godspeed!!

  135. Daniela Petty Says:

    Unbelievable!!!!
It was such a great feeling to hear you’re back!
I’m not the little girl I was when you were playing on the world radio (specially here in Brasil)… but I’m happy and amazed for having that magic feeling back!
I have so many memories about it all!!!!!!
I even studied English cause I dreamt about ‘visiting Boston and meeting the NKOT”.
Great!!!! I speak English now and I visited Boston (a dream came true) in 1996… and even though I never met you as most tennagers of that time dreamt about… I kept you all inside my heart for all this years!!!!
Hope to listen to you on the radio, now that I’m 32 years old, and feel as if I were 16 again!!!!!!!!!!!
    Love,
    Daniela.

  139. Sean Says:

Is anyone else COMPLETELY PSYCHED that the New Kids are getting back together??? I’ve been a fan since ‘88 when “Please Don’t Go Girl” came out, but NEVER got the chance to see them in person. They came to our town in ‘89 but I had to work. I’ll DEFINTELY be at the “Today” show on May 16th when they perform for the first time since ‘94! GO, NEW KIDS!!!

  140. Annie Weaver Says:

I am SO excited for these guys to be back together. When I heard that there would be a concert, I imediately called my mom and said “I don’t care how much I have to pay, I am going to that show” and she told me I needed to get my priorities in line. I said “don’t worry mom, they are”.

Thank you for rejuvinating the little girl inside me!

  144. angela Says:

I have never been so excited in my life! New Kids was the first Concert I ever went to. I texted everyone I know the minuted i heard it was true!

  145. M.J. Salgado Says:

I’ve been anxiously anticipating the reunion on the Today Show… all week long I’ve felt like a little kid again as I was looking forward to Friday morning. There are few things in my life that take me back to my childhood as much as NKOTB does. I think my parents and sister have genuinely been happy to hear me as excited as I was this week (and my boyfriend just couldn’t understand). In the midst of the stresses of my student loans, my car breaking down this week, the multiple presentations I did for work, and burning the midnight oil in my office, it was nice to feel like a teen again as I anticipated NKOTB’s reunion. And to Donnie’s comment about wanting redemption for the fans — thank you!! I’m a diverse music lover - everything from Queen, The Roots, Gypsy Kings, Billy Joel, Wu-Tang… and I’ve never doubted NKOTB’s talent. Sometimes people DO make me feel a little crazy for the fact that every now and then I pop in an old NKOTB cd… but I realize I’m not. So the posters and the t-shirts were a little excessive when I was 12, but at 29, I’m still proud to be a fan of 5 pretty amazingly, talented men…

  146. Kara Davis Says:

We are soooo looking forward to this reunion. My best friend,my tow cousins and myself have ALWAYS been huge fans! Good luck to you boys, can’t wait to buy your new CD and see ya on your tour!!!!!

  147. Jessica Says:

I have been waiting for this day for soooooooo long. About 5 years ago, Boston.com had posted something on April 1st that say the New Kids on the Block were coming back. It turned out to be an April fools joke and I was so upset. When I first heard about a reunion this time, I didn’t believe it. Didn’t want to get my hopes up. I’m still a fan and so is the majority of my family. We have been waiting for this moment…..always having faith. I just knew in my heart that this day would come eventually….and, it’s FINALLY here! I have no doubt that it will be worth the wait. People have asked me, “what are you going to do if they don’t play in Boston”. Are you kidding me?? Being originally from Dorchester, MA myself…..this is HUGE! As you know, the New Kids are from Boston! Of course they have to play here! I can speak for myself, along with many others that I know and say “Welcome Back Donny, Danny, Jordon, Jonathan and Joey”!

  148. Michele Says:

Here’s to hoping the snowball heads toward New Jersey! I’m ridiculously excited to hear the new sound, and wish you all the luck in the world.

  149. Manny O Says:

New Guys! Hey I wish you the very best on your upcoming tour and You are the original great group that had a great impact and now that your men with experience I know you can drop some good sound. Donnie, you stayed true to the fellas even with your awesome acting career. Hope you guys stay close throughout life , cause thats what it’s about and you have a bond.

    Great things coming….

    Manny

  150. Julie H. Says:

I’ve loved you guys since 1988. I still proudly call myself a New Kids fan to this day! Can’t wait for the new album and the tour!! And like Joe said we are legal now!! You guys still are H-O-T HOT!!You’ve totally made my day today. Thanks guys!!

  151. Carolyn Murphy Says:

This is nuts! I am soooooooo sooooo excited! I can’t even describe the feeling! My heart was pounding when I saw the Today show. This is bringing back amazing memories. I never thought at 32, happily maerried with 3 girls that I would be reliving my childhood. I am soooooo camping out to get tickets. My Daughters are going to crack up! Somethings will never change. My girls are going to soon find out how wild their mommy really is! How funny that I swore up and down that I was going to marry Joey Mac! I really thought I was madly in love with him and we were meant to be. That’s the innocence of childhood. It’s priceless.
CONGRATS guys!!! Can’t wait to listen to your music!

  152. Tony Says:

    Welcome back!

Looking forward to the new album and tour!

    Keep On, Keepin’ On!

    Tony

  153. Mandi Moyer Says:

I am glad to hear that they are back! I used to be so in love with Donnie! I remember going to their concert in Detroit @ The Palace 1989 and I cried because I didn’t get pulled up on stage when they sang “Cover Girl”. (Every time Donnie sung that sung he would pick a lil girl from the audience and pull her up)Hopefully my dream will still come true..lol( You never know)

  168. Yay Says:

Welcome back guys!!! Thanx for doing this to the fans! Hope you’ll include the Philippines in your tour. This is going to be huge!!!

  169. 1r+sh Says:

this is a sick april fools joke, correct?

  170. Mikey Says:

Let’s just hope that they consult with the group “New Edition” and be professional on stage. New Edition does a great concert, singing almost exactly and performing (Group Dancing, etc.) as they did in the 80’s. That brings back alot of memories for the fans, and introduces the new crowd of fans to a nastalgic performance.

  171. Jeannette Pagan Says:

This is so amazing that after all these years they’re really coming back . I never thought that this would happen . My kids are so excited for me they’ve been playing the c.d’s and laughing at me singing all the songs , but what’s even more funny is that they are only 9 and 12 years old and know all the songs . My kids can not wait to see New Kids in concert and sometimes I think they’re more excited than I am . Thanks for doing this for all the old time fans we love you .

  172. MICHELLE Says:

    This is soooooooooo GREAT!!!
My cousin and I absolutely LOVE NKOTB
It’s funny because her and I were out shopping about 3 weeks ago and as I was checking out she came up to me with a huge smile on her face, I said What? and she said just wait till we get to the car, so when we got in the car she put a new cd that she had just bought in, and it was NKOTB!!!! 173. Alexia Johnson Says:

I am soooo excited this is happening. Over here in the uk, when new kids left, boyzone and take that started, they then all split, but take that reformed a year ago, and they are not just still a hot group, their music is great(even my husband agrees!!). I am sure you guys can do the same thing, even not better, your music meant alot to myself, and millions of others, so it is great you are going to do this on your own terms in your own time, hopefully you will be here to stay for a while, i will be first in the queue when you come to London. Good Luck guys, not sure you will need it though, nearly everybody i know is talking about the reunion, so the buzz is already happening!!!!!!!

  174. Jamie Baxter Says:

I am so EXCITED that the news is true! When I first heard I said No Way because I have waited for this since the Face the Music album came out. I had to record the Today show this morning because I was at work (I felt like a kid at school again!) and I can’t wait to see you all back together! I have every one of your albums on my iPod and until last Christmas when my tape popped I listened to your Merry Merry Christmas album while wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve. Now I just listen to it on my iPod. I also have your videos and my 15 year old sister has found the same love for you guys that I have. This is the best news EVER for me and I look forward to catchng you live on tour in my town just as I did when I was a kid only this time with my sister!

  176. Sarah Bokan Says:

I CAN NOT WAIT for the tour!!!!! I agree with the post below mine “Once a Blockhead, always a Blockhead” I am so excited and happy ,my friends and I are already getting ready to buy tickets, one good thing about it being 20 years later is that we don’t have sleep outside of venues for tickets! Thanks to the internet getting tickets will be alot more comfortable!
Again I’m glad the wait is over and can’t wait to see all 5 of “the boys” doing what they have always done best!

NKOTB was the 1st concert (many followed) that I took my lil sister to…she was 11 & I was 21…twenty years later we are hoping to go to one of the Reuinion shows & will be bringing her lil girl, my niece, who is 10…I guess it all comes full circle…and above all, as a singer/songwriter myself, I am ecstatic that the guys are really digging in & writing new material themselves…can’t wait to hear the end result…

  180. chicago Says:

Welcome back!!! We missed you. I’m so excited to hear this news. I hope you guys come to Chicago. I woke up very early this morning and was even late for work just to get a chance to see you on TV. It was great to see that all of you are doing great and look better than ever. You left on a positive note and are coming back to a group of fans that never forgot about you guys. I can’t wait to see you in concert. This time, I’m paying for my own tickets and inviting all my friends, family and even my boyfriend to come see you. Good luck!

  181. dhannigan1 Says:

This is for Donnie. I hope your family is well. You would not remember us but I do recall a chance meeting with a sibling of yours, your sister Tracy. It was a long time a good.

    This is for Joey

It is great to see you getting back together. The last time I saw you perform was at the Avalon in Boston and a cousin of my own, caught Joey walking out the door and kissed him right where he was standing.

I am glad to see that you are all doing well and will be coming back with a new album. It will be nice to see the growth in this album since life experience I am sure will play a part to this

    Welcome Back

  182. jenns29 Says:

“No, I want this to be redemption — but not for us,” Wahlberg explains. “I want it to be redemption for the fans. I want them to feel entertained, to feel treated to something special. And I want them to be so satisfied by what they get that they’ll realize they weren’t crazy all those years ago — that they put their heart into the right place back then and that it was worth the wait to come back again.”

And people dare to wonder why we’re so loyal? I love you guys, can’t wait to get this party started!

  183. remoore12 Says:

I am so incredibly happy to see you all back again!! I’ve been a fan for a long time, and knew someday we’d see you back together! Never got rid of anything of yours! I will go wherever I need to go to see you guys perform again!
I think its amazing that you all can come together again and just pick up where you left off! I can’t wait to hear your new stuff. It’ll definetly go in my iPod with your old stuff (which I’ve had in there since 2004!!)

My VERY best to you all! Good luck & God Bless!

I am SOOO excited!! My GF thinks I’m crazy, but when the tour is announced, I’m scooping up the best seats I can get. I’ve somewhat followed the careers of the guys who are still out and about in show business (Donnie with his acting and Jordan & Joe with their music) and have been eagerly anticipating this moment. You have no idea how happy you’ve made me! Thank you so much!

  193. msperry27 Says:

Hearing about this reunion has taken me back to my youth. I was around 10 years old when I first started to listen to the New Kids on the Block and I became one of their biggest fans. I went to every single concert you guys held here in Dallas and I can’t wait to see you at the reunion tour - this has been a long time coming. The first time I told my mom that the guys were getting back together and going on tour, she was like, “oh good, you’re old enough now where I don’t have to go with you.” Don’t get me wrong, she loved you just as much, but she always had to wear earplugs because of all the screaming girls. My friends at work like to make fun of me becauase I have been so excited about this since the first time I heard. Your fans have grown with you and you will make new fans extremely happy, as you did us when we were that age. I personally can’t wait to hear the old stuff so it can take me back to my childhood and all the memories. The new stuff is worth the wait and I know it will be amazing! Thank you guys for getting back together and making me feel like a little school girl again!!!
